@aprk: Yay! I agree that the ease of use makes me appreciate it a ton. Plus, these are used for a few years - maybe not all the time but definitely longer than many other baby items. I splurged on a high chair too, and love my choice there as well. It was worth the extra on those items for me.

@blackbird: @.twist.: very true. The Breeze is $$$. We are using it as a sleeper and then for home use and I figure I'm going to appreciate its ease of use to make it worth it.

The Breeze is like $220 on Amazon...I just don't feel OK asking my mom to spend that when she's expecting ~$100 for a Pack N Play.

My SIL has been to my house and says we probably wouldn't use the changing table, but the bassinet is nice if she is napping while I cook or something and am afraid I won't hear her.

We had one in our living room for the first 3 months, we had one with a bassinet and a change table, and the change table was so useful in the early months. Sawyer also napped in it most of the time so he was near me all the time. I really recommend one with a change table if you are thinking of using it in your home on a regular basis.

Seriously, spring for the Breeze. We held out on the pack and play thing and bought one of these a month or so ago and LOVE it! It is honestly the easiest thing to set up and take down. It's brilliant! It is one of my favorite pieces of baby gear!

We registered for this Chicco one and don't use any of the bells and whistles. The mobile is inconvenient, the sound/vibrator thing isn't powerful enough and I ended up just always bringing LO to his room for changing. Have used bassinet and it for travel only so definitely didn't need something so extravagant.

http://www.target.com/p/chicco-lullaby-se-playard-perseo/-/A-13802259#prodSlot=large_1_26&term=Chico

I regret that it was bought and that I didn't keep the box to try to return after we weren't using it the fisr few weeks. I could have used the money for diapers!!!

@blackbird: honestly we don't use ours because baby wanted to sleep in his crib! So now we just have it for if/when we travel...or when we BBQ outside or me & DH are in the pool, lO can play in it without having to sit in the grass. We used our bassinet feature for like a week? But hey- it doesn't cost extra for the bassinet so go for it. We got Graco's: ours was for $99 from walmart:
https://www.google.com/search?q=graco+pack+and+play+green&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=LcrOUMvvCoONygHr34D4AQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=320&bih=416#i=6

It's gender neutral...& the bassinet flips over and turns into a changing station. The toy bar is removable too. It's great & cheap so I don't mind that we only will use it once in awhile

I honestly don't know what we are going to use it for. The nursery is 10 steps from the family room. Our house is one level and we won't be traveling anytime soon (plus my mom has one). I'm not sure if we are going to have her sleep in here or in her nursery. Our bed takes up most of the width of the room so she would have to sleep at the foot of our bed. We registered for a cosleeper though since we have a king.

Since she slept in it the first few weeks it was nice to have the bassinet feature and the changing table feature. In the middle of the night we just stepped out of bed, pulled her from the bassinet, changed her really quick and then got her back down.

After those first weeks though she went to her crib and we only use the basic part of the PNP

we have the safety 1st one from BRU with the changer and storage attached.

I only used the changer a few times because she rolled in it as soon as she gained weight, and it was less of a hassle to just lean over the bassinet or walk upstairs to be honest.

I did love the storage though (and using the changer as a storage spot). we just put it in the bedroom, minus the storage because of lack of space, and I'm lost in the living room as to where to put things!

she LOVES the mobile and songs, as boring as the little bears are.

I LOVE the bassinet, because when they're that tiny (and you're recovering) it's easier to not have to lean all the way to the floor to pick them up or lay them down. and it was sort of a suspension type deal, when she wiggled or kicked it rocked her which she liked.

I haven't figured out how to fold it back up, but we aren't really using it for travel any time soon so that's not a big deal.

my parents have a basic, no frills graco like above and she likes that too.

I think it depends on what you're going to use it for. For the newborn months, we borrowed my sister's arms reach cosleeper. When we travel, we use our baby bjorn travel crib, which is amazingly easy to set up. When LO is at her grandparents, she sleeps in the joovy room2, which is enormous and still contains her at 22mo.

We have this Carter's PNP:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4328891&prodFindSrc=pn

I like it. We've used it a lot while traveling. I think what you need depends on what your needs are. In the end, I really didn't need the extras (bassinet, changing area, etc.). We were in a one story house and I didn't need an extra changing area. Also, my LO slept in his crib from day 1.

I would consider a few things...

Are you planning on baby sleeping in your room?
Do you need a bed for your room?
Do you need an extra changing area?

Ours was a gift but we could have easily gotten away with a basic PNP and saved some money.

I started looking into this too and agree with @autumnlove: .. the highest rated ones on Amazon seem to be the basic one + bassinet. We'll probably use this as our only bassinet for the beginning, before crib.
