My son is 2.5 and that's the blanket he takes to daycare. We know it will never be lost since it's personalized. I live in the south, and in my experience we didn't really use any of the thick blankets we got as gifts-- we ended up giving them away to a pregnancy center. Of course I wouldn't give away one that was personalized! But anyway, I didn't take a look at all the blankets, but I would suggest a light one.
