I skipped oysters and alcohol, and I don't eat soft serve or sushi whether or not I'm pregnant. I resumed consuming caffeine (not every day, and only one drink per day) in my second trimester, and only avoided deli meat that had been sitting out on a sandwich tray.

I didn't limit myself physically at all, except the heavy lifting that DH would not allow me to help with.

Like basically none of them... I cut alcohol (I'm a pretty regular drinker otherwise) and I don't take medication unless I absolutely have to pregnant or not.

Otherwise I don't really give any of them a second thought... I don't think that most of them are really that dangerous. I've never had an actual doctor tell me not to have deli meats, soft cheese, sushi, etc.

No winter sports like skiing, snow tubing, or ice skating with a significant bump.

No raw sushi from sketchy places. No deli meat that I didn't know for sure had been opened within the last 48 hours.

I'm a big worrier so it's easier for my peace of mind to just follow most of the "don't/can't have" rules. With my first pregnancy I followed everything with the exception of the rare cup of coffee and I took a lot of Tums (not even sure if those are a no-no honestly?). This time around I've loosed up a bit and have had 1-2 sodas per week and early in the pregnancy I had some half-decaf coffees, but lately coffee doesn't really sound that appealing. Both pregnancies I got really lazy about working out though. Being pregnant in the winter makes it really easy to make excuses for not going on walks :)

I couldn't even tell you what most of the pregnancy rules are anymore. I'm pregnant with my third and I use common sense, rather than adhering to a lot of over the top rules (my opinion on them). I eat deli meat, sushi, soft serve, I eat my steak cooked rare, I consume caffeine, I drink small amounts of alcohol on occasion, I don't modify my lifestyle, and I basically live my normal life. I don't take any meds, except my prescription allergy and asthma meds that have been approved by my doctor, but I rarely take medication beyond that anyway so it's not a change from my normal day to day.

I followed a lot more rules with my first baby but with my second and now this one, I'm just not that worried about it. And neither is my midwife - she was only concerned with whether or not I smoked (I don't), drank more than one unit of alcohol a day (not even close), or did any recreational drugs (I don't), other than that, she said everything in moderation and listening to my body were all she recommends.

I was good about meds. I didn't clean the cat box although given our cats were indoor cats it probably wasn't an issue. Apparently there is a bigger chance of getting toxoplasmosis from gardening. But I didn't tell DH that.

I didn't follow the rules for food except deli meat. I drank wine. I went skiing at 7 months pregnant.

No alcohol, take my prenatals, only take meds on my "ok to take" list from my doctor. I think that's about it? I eat deli meat and drink caffeine. My doctor said I can eat sushi and go bungee jumping if I want to LOL I'm not into either of those though.

Well I am bit different because I take a prescription drug Financea (azelaic acid) for my rosacea during my first and current pregnancy. It's a class B and my OB is okay with it so I am okay with it!

I also dye my hair in the first trimester. I read all the studies and also discussed with OB.

I am stricter about the food things because I feel it causes me a lot of anxiety. I also would have wine in the third trimester (like 3/4 of a glass) if I felt like it.

Pretty much followed all of them. I do have heavy toddlers to pick up but I pay for it with serious sciatica every time I pick them up so it's a good reminder to avoid as much as I can. My previous doc had some extra food rules, like limiting canned food (BPA), refined sugar, things like that that are actually common sense but hard to follow, so I did "cheat" with those.

Yes for foods with the potential to harm (deli meat, unpasteurized cheese - listeria etc), no to anything related to exercise (if I can do it, I will do it), and 100% yes to meds.

ETA: I think it's important to look into WHY a food is recommended. It's easy to say "oh I don't listen to any of the food ones" when some are more important than others. Example deli meat. Yes it could have listeria and I don't want a stillborn. Sushi: the process of freezing actually kills the worms that are potentially harmful, so I only eat sushi from high-quality places and ask if it's been frozen before being served. "Food recs" really shouldn't all be lumped together because some are more important than others. It just takes a little research to tease it apart.

I worked on an outbreak of listeria in 2006 that caused 2 miscarriages and 2 stillbirths in my state so I take it seriously :(

Followed: No alcohol, Attempted to limit all OOC drugs and used only Tylenol when absolutely necessary (except TUMS, I had LOTS of TUMS), no high mercury fish including tuna, took prenatal, vitamin D, and fish oil supplements
Sorta followed: Limited caffeine to two cups of coffee per day
Did not follow: Pretty much all the food ones
Not relevant: the exercise ones, I was not in good shape when I got pregnant and only walked throughout pregnancy and some lite pre-natal yoga

I followed most food recommendations most of the time: if I was at a party and there was nothing easy and "safe" for me to eat, I would eat something recommended to avoid; I don't drink much, so it was easy to avoid alcohol; I regularly drank caffiene but never more that the equivalent of a cup of coffee in a day. I exercised as much as I felt like, but was down to just walking for the last month or so; I carried my 25 lb toddler regularly, but let my husband do it if he was around. I was not sick during either pregnancy, so medication wasn't an issue. (And I took prenatals throughout.)

@Applesandbananas: I ate more deli meat with my second pregnancy, but always heated it up first. I was told you could buy it, microwave it to kill any germs, and then put it back in the fridge so it's cold when you want it later. I did that all the time!

@HazelEyes: You didn't get sick from it so no need to worry! Honestly, I've been eating sushi, runny eggs, cookie dough and rare steak my entire life without getting food poisoning, so I wasn't worried it was suddenly going to pop up during my pregnancy. But I'm a pretty low worry person, in general.

Prenatals only. I have stayed away from all other medications.

Food- I'm better at staying away from definite no-nos than eating 100% healthy all the time. Now that baby has developed taste buds I'm making more of an effort to cook at home more since eating out means more hidden fat and salt.

Alcohol- I had two thimble size wine samples. Besides that nothing.

Caffeine- I indulge a little in soda when at the movie theatre and still drink espresso drinks in the morning.

Exercise- I make an attempt every day to get my 10,000 steps.

I try to take it easy when it comes to carrying or lifting heavy things, but sometimes I have to do stuff on my own.

I was pretty careful about meds: I took prenatals, calcium supplements, heartburn meds, and occasional Tylenol.

I was pretty lax about food: I avoided deli meat, unpasteurized dairy and limited large predatory fish. I limited to one alcoholic drink per week, slowly, with a meal in the second and third tri. I ate sushi, soft serve, rare steak, runny eggs, and cookie dough. I tried to eat a lot of salmon for the Omega 3s.

Activity wise I was very careful about hot tubs. I did use them once in the first tri and once in the second tri, but I set the tubs at 100F and took my temperature every so often to be sure my temp didn't get over 102F (it never even got about 100F). I happen to have a condition that gives me a high heart rate, so I did watch that, which limited my exercise options pretty drastically. I went skiing at 14 weeks but I went slow and kept to easy slopes. I went hiking throughout, though pretty short ones in the third tri just for comfort's sake. I didn't consciously avoid lifting except for big things like moving furniture - that was all hubby!
