The hospital also has lots of on-staff lactation consultants so I knew I would get 1:1 BF help too once the baby was there.</p> <p>I might have taken more classes, but they were $$$ and only offered at weird times that didn't work with our work schedules, so we winged it. I think it was a total waste. Somehow practicing on a doll is not the same as a real baby! I also think they only pointed out the positive aspects and not the bad. My induction failed and I ended up with a C-section so the childbirth class didn't do much. It's 6 weeks, 2.5 hours per week. The first three classes covered childbirth, the last covers breastfeeding, and the other two cover childcare. </p> <p>It was quite the time investment, but I think it was very helpful - especially for DH. We still have the breastfeeding class this week, but my favorite part so far was when an anesthesiologist came to the class, gave a presentation and answered questions. </p> <p>The hospital is "baby-friendly" but I think the instructors did a really good job of discussing "options" and making you feel empowered to make your own decisions. The child birth and breastfeeding one were extremely long and only had about 15 minutes of useful information. Whoops! I did take a cpr class though in order to take DD1 home from NICU. For DD2 I just winged it. I found the nurses and midwives and doctors to be very efficient and helpful in coaching! So far I've found them very interesting and informative, and I'll be taking infant care and breastfeeding classes there next month, too. They offer baby wearing and baby signing classes after birth, but I'm still on the fence about those (mostly because they are $$$). The same holistic center offers a cloth diaper class (partnered with the diaper service we looked into) and a babywearing class that I plan to take. They offer some other classes too. What kind of prep classes did you take? Which ones were most helpful pre-baby? Which ones would you suggest post baby? </p>
