My original pump was the Avent and I had one that malfunctioned. The lever you use to manually start the pump/set the suction would get stuck in the down position and pull my nipples HARD. It was painful and hurt. I also had a problem with the bottles leaking in the fridge. There would always be a puddle of milk around the bottles when I went to transfer them for storage. I ended up taking the pump back to the store (BBB) and they allowed me to exchange it to credit for a Medela PISA, due to it being a manufacture defect. I'm so much happier with my PISA.

I know nothing about the Mipump so I can't really compare either, but just wanted to share my experience with the Avent.

I have an older version of the Avent Twin Electric! I really like it, although my version kind of blows because you have to manually set the suction. I'm not sure how the new ones are.

But YES - you pump directly into the bottles. Because of this, I have all Avent stuff for convenience. You just screw the bottle onto the pump and you're good to go. So if you already have a bunch of Avent stuff, it seems like the Avent pump would be the way to go.

I don't know anything about the Mipump though, so I can't compare the two. I really like my Avent pump though - it gets the job done and is easy to use.

ETA: One of the things I really like about the Avent pump is the petal flanges. It causes it to kind of massage your boobs while pumping, which I think helps with the output. There's only two flange sizes though - the normal ones that they come with, and I think a larger size. The normal ones work for me though, so I haven't really looked into it a whole lot.

I'm heading to the USA next week where breast pumps are so much cheaper than they are here in Canada.

I'm trying to decide between buying the Avent Twin Electric or the First Years Mipump double electric.

I have a lot of Avent products (bottles/bottle warmer/sterilizer) already...would it be easier and more convenient to use the same brand pump? This is a really stupid question, but when you pump are you pumping into bottles or containers or something else?

There's also a huge price difference - 200$ for the Avent, or 50$ for the Mipump.

The only other consideration is that I had a breast reduction a few years ago so while the plastic surgeon said I *should* be able to BF, I won't know until I try. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a pump just to find out that I can't BF at all, but on the other hand if I do have low supply I'll want a good pump from the start to get every lost drop.

Any thoughts?
