I would get the one you have parts you can use. Extra parts are so nice. I have the Ameda, so it isn't a bad option either.

I got the Ameda purely yours free from my insurance. I also am borrowing a friends' Medela pump in style (so I have one at work and one at home). I like the Ameda because it's more portable, easier to travel with, and easier to clean (can't get moisture in the tubing). Also, I bought bigger flanges, etc on amazon so I had no problem getting spare parts.

Ultimately I think the PIS is a little more powerful though. So, I would say you really can't go wrong??

@highwire: i have the medela one from insurance and LOVE it. it's the one i leave at work, suction/power is great. the only downside is that you need to plug it in (im used to the freestyle's battery)... but seriously, AMAZING :)

@LaineysMom: my insurance covered rentals but only up to the cost of the purchase price of the pumps they offered so I don't think that would last very long.

@highwire: I just did a quick online search about the medela you are eligible for; it sounds like it is very similar to the PISA (uses the same motor). Since you don't have to buy new spare parts I'd say go for that one.

@highwire: your insurance may cover the cost of renting. I know that was one of the options with my plan. I'm sure a hospital grade pump is going to be better than any consumer grade pump and since you've mentioned struggling with supply that may be a good option for you.

I have the medela double one (probably same as yours, insurance covered it) and I like it! It would be nice to already have parts and stuff. Mine came in a beige tote, in case you were wondering/if that makes a difference.

Haven't used my pump, as baby isn't here yet... But if your insurance covers a pump, they might cover spare parts as well. Maybe something to look into. I got the ameda fwiw.

I really love that my ameda is a closed system. Not sure about the medela pump you mentioned. The only extras i bought for the ameda were another set of flanges, and an extra set of valves and diaphragms. The bottles you have would work with it.

I have the ameda and I've been pleased so far. However, you already have the extra parts for the medela so that's a plus. Although any narrow neck bottle fits onto the ameda so you wouldn't need anymore bottles. I'm no help.

I have the Medela one, and I think it's pretty similar/the same as the PIS? I know nothing about pumps, but it seems to be the same... On my insurance EOB, the pump price was like $350, so I figured it has to be a good one?

My health plan finally renews next month so I will be eligible for a free breast pump then:

Here are the two choices:

Ameda Purely Yours
Pros: Good reviews online
Cons: I don't have any spare parts at this point (But I could obviously buy some)

Medela Personal Double Pump (NOT the PIS)
Pros: Already have been renting a Medela Symphony so I have a lot of parts, bottles, and back up items that would fit this pump I think
Cons: Not a lot of reviews online. Looks like it is only sold by medical suppliers and not by regular retailers

Anyone have any experience with either of these?
