@hilsy85. I just got ferbers book on my ipad and started reading it. He makes it sound way too easy! Like, dropping a feeding is a piece of cake....um, no! Lol...

I think I'm going to do nights first, and then worry about naps. We have a pretty solid nighttime routine: bath, sing a few songs while changing diaper, snuggle, nurse (he doesn't completely fall asleep nursing), then pacifier, bed. He tosses and turns and rolls for a bit, loses his paci probably 5 times, then eventually goes to sleep. The problem seems to be habitual waking to eat at pretty regular intervals (last night, it was every 2 hours). I tried just patting him back to sleep last night at midnight, and it worked! So, he went about 4 hours between feeds that time...course, not all of it was total sleep, but that's still progress!

The other thing is the early wake ups. This may just be because of the habitual eating because its always about the same time, but DS always seems to stir at 6 am, but is definitely not fully waking...I'd love to see that end too....but at that point, nursing, and patting seems to work best. And since I can't fall back asleep anyways I might as well. He usually is up for the day around 7 then and is his happy giggly self. But it would be nice if that last hour wasn't spent trying to cajole him back to sleep!

I think we did naps first. It was always a battle to get her to nap so finally I just set LO down and left. It made it easier to do it at night knowing that it worked for naps.

We did both at the same time. We tried to do them separate, some books suggest they recognize a difference so you can do one without the other. Our pediatrician said to do both at the same time and ultimately, we followed the Sleep Lady book plan and did both at the same time. It was a rough few days, but the end result was life changing!

nights. nights are easier and they'll be better rested to tackle the days. with charlie we did both at the same time which was hard.

I think generally people tackle night first because its easier--baby is naturally more tired versus naps, which also need to repeat throughout the day. Have you read any sleep training books? We used Ferber and I found his book to be really helpful and informative. I know in the no cry sleep solution, se discusses ways to improve sleep while continuing to co sleep so that might be a good option ft you.

we did both too, but if i had to choose, i would choose night for sure! :) i think that might be in the long run more beneficial for baby too? just thinking along the lines of, if they get a good night's sleep with minimal or no wake - up's they will be more refreshed than if they tackle a few hour long naps during the day :) just a thought! :) good luck!

Well, I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask because I did BOTH (nap and night) at the same time by crying it out. My goal was to get LO to fall asleep on her own (in her own room and crib) without having me to rock her at all. She was a terrible napper and night sleeper and I was prepared to tackle both at the same time to get all the stress out of the way in one shot.

Which is worse for you/your LO?

DS just turned 6 months old, and I'm ready for sleep to get better. He was fairly decent as a newborn, only waking 2 times to feed at night, and going back to sleep easily. But once we hit the 4 month sleep regression and stopped swaddling, it's been pretty terrible. Anywhere from 3-5 night wakings, sometimes more. Ive usually been nursing him back to sleep, but sometimes even that doesn't work!

His naps used to be reliably 2 hrs, but those started getting shorter, and often he would startle at 40 mins in and need help going back to sleep (and I know he's not ready to be up at 40 mins because he's soooo cranky).

I've had a few rough days where I've been in tears because I'm surviving off of maybe 1-2 hrs of sleep total. It's not good for me mentally or physically. And so, I'm ready to start working on this! But I'm not sure which one I should tackle first, night or naps.

For night time, DS cosleeps with me. Eventually, I'd like to have him in the pack n play in our room for at least a majority of the night. For naps, he used to be in his crib, but then really had trouble with it, so I started napping him where he sleeps at night, and that seems to help some. I did try to get him to sleep in his crib last week for a nap....it took 30 mins of patting and shushing to get him down, when normally it's less than 5. My goal is to have him napping inhis crib so that I can get some stuff done!

Anyways...I need a game plan and advice, and I haven't an idea where to start. Should I work on night wakings first and getting him inthe pack in play? I don't really know what to change or do. I'm not 100% opposed to cry it out, but it's also probably not what I want to start with. I'd love to get his night wakings back down to 2. I can handle that. This every 90 min - 2 hours, plus squirming and rolling all over the place, is driving me nuts!

Any advice, tips, or thoughts on where to begin. It's kind of daunting to figure this out....
