You can squeeze the water up to teach them the water will come out of the straw. Now that she has the hang of it she can use the munchkin one even though it's harder to suck out of. But I only use them for water. </p> <p>For smoothies I use the munchkin one but with a regular straw that I can throw out. They are very good and leak substantially less than all of the (many) other cups I have tried.</p> <p>The biggest thing for us has been that milk is either in a sippy (and any sippy with do) or only in the high chair - that way I don't have to worry about leaks. We use the Momma cups or a Take and Toss straw cups for high chair milk drinking.</p> <p>DD loves the Zoli and the BBox cups for water.
