@SupernovaJ: Thanks for the link! I'll check it out. I got a Medela Freestyle one during my last pregnancy so I have a portable one. I was planning on getting another Freestyle because I really liked it, but been hearing great things about the Spectra. So I'm trying to decide which Spectra to get vs getting another Freestyle.

@Alivoo01: Actually, the Spectra 9 Plus Advanced isn't the hospital grade one, rather it's their most slim and portable one for moms who prefer to pump "on the go" - it's quite small compared to the other Spectra models and probably isn't as quiet! It was the only model that was covered through my insurance, I would have preferred the hospital grade one for sure. ;)

Here's a short summary on all of their models. Different insurance carriers will cover different models! Spectra is getting a lot of attention these days... Super curious to see how they perform.

I'm also curious about the noise level factor compared to the PISA! I've never heard of the Spectra and a quieter more portable pump would be amazing!

@SupernovaJ: @kayakgirl73: I'm glad to see some good reviews on the Spectra! I'm looking at that and the Hygeia for my next go around with pumping. I hated my Ameda and had so many problems with it.

Mine was 100 percent insurance covered though Edgepark. The Hygeia was 100 percent covered by Insurance though Byram. I was double insured for awhile.

I have the Spectra Hospital grade. I like it better than the Hygeia Q which is the Insurance version of the Enjoye. Much quieter than the Hygeia and better than the Ameda I had for my first baby. Not quite as good as the rented Symphony I ended up using the first time around but that thing was pricey. I found after market valves on Amazon that are cheaper and I was able to use the Hygeia bottle adapters so that I could use my stash of Medala and Ameda pump bottles.

I just received my Spectra 9 Plus Advanced through insurance, covered 100% (insurance is UHC and medical supplier was Byram). It's not one of the more popular models but this was the offering they had and I was very curious to try a Spectra pump after using my Medela religiously with my first. We are expecting #2 any day now so will update on the efficiency once I test it out. First impression was that it was very small and portable, which is a bonus compared to the Medela PISA. Curious to see how others like their Spectras also!

@alivoo01 I used Edgepark for my supplier. Oh forgot to say there is no car adapter but I was able to get something off Amazon. Hopefully it works! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B011MXBWU0/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm not completely sure which one you're referring to. I have an S2 and I love it. It's the exact same thing as the S1 but it has a battery. My insurance would have covered the S1 100% but I paid an extra $100 (with HSA money) to upgrade to the S2 so that I could have the battery.

I actually just told my husband the other day that I'm so glad I paid extra for the battery. It makes life so much easier. Especially while traveling. I can pump in the car, if needed. But mostly I just don't have to hunt for an outlet or sit on the floor by an outlet. But I pump at least twice per day, so it you were using it very infrequently, it might not be that big of a deal.

Not that much help since I haven't used the portable one, but I used the Spectra 2 (hospital-grade) for 6 months of exclusive pumping and it worked so much better than my Medela PISA.

I got the hospital grade one. And my (not so awesome) insurance surprisingly covered it 100% and the process was so easy! I have only used it twice as my daughter just turned 6 weeks old so I am now just starting to pump and save up a stash for work. So far I like how quiet it is and that you can adjust the suction strength and frequency to what is comfortable for you. I did have to buy a larger breastshield because the ones that came were the standard size. So if you have larger breasts you may have to do that. Overall it is good so far. No complaints 🙂

You must come back and review it! I hear SO many good things about Spectra on my local breastfeeding boards too... This is what I want for #2. Did your insurance cover it?
