We have a Parents (Batatt) around the block push walker, and before she started walking at 10 months we had her in a Chicco lil splash piano walker. My son had the same push walker and used a regular sit in walker and walked on his first birthday. Both pediatricians advised against both.

My lo has the haba walker, not listed above. We love it, but he will push anything through the house and actually prefers a short stool with his name in a puzzle form that is from One Step Ahead. He will push chairs, barstools, bags of dog food; literally anything that moves. No wheels required. I do think there must be confusion on types of walkers that are banned. Pushing something is natural development and you might prefer it to be a walker that is meant for that purpose to reduce the risk of tipping over.

Thanks @Zippylef. I appreciate you educating us. We certainly used a push behind and were just as cautious about watching our LO as when she was crawling and walking. I can see where they are dangerous unsupervised.

@char54: the walkers that are essentially exersaucers on wheels are banned, push walkers aren't.

The radio flyer walker looks to be the most versatile. That would be my pick!

They're banned here in Canada... all the parents I know use exersaucers instead.

@MamaG: @Mrs. Pen: http://www.livestrong.com/article/238360-baby-walker-comparison/

"The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in the UK, the Royal Plunket Society in New Zealand, the Canadian Academy of Pediatrics, and the Australian Consumers Association all recommend that parents not use baby walkers. This is because of the accident risk and the possible delays they might cause in a child's actually learning to walk."

"The small push-behind walkers are more dangerous than the seated walkers, which regulations now require to have more safety features to limit injuries."

I'm not making it up. I'm just stating what I have read.

@MamaG: that's what I read too- those aren't recommended.

@zippylef: I don't see how a push along walker would affect walking, my son walks along furniture or pushes other things to "walk" so how is that any different?:

I like the third and fourth options!!

@zippylef: our peditrician also advised against walkers, but not the kind that @rainbow sprinkles has shown. The kind that we were advised against are like the below link.

http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Sounds-Lights-Discovery/dp/B003HC8622/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355247024&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+walker

I like all the push/walk behinds shown. Ours were all plastic and were harder to push on carpet and a little too fast on the wood in the early days.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: no he used it at that age, but the plastic shopping cart was the first walker he used at a playspace. the radio flyer the kids still play with! olive and charlie ride in it all the time. charlie hands olive this steering wheel toy we have and tells her to "drive." it's so cute!

they can also pull their toys/dolls in it.

@Mrs. Bee: I read your guide which is where I found the radio flyer. I feel like it will last a long time!
It wasn't too heavy for him to push when he was little (10 monthsish)?

we have the 4th one. it is cute enough to keep long term as they can use it for imaginative play. we also had the melissa and doug alligator, but sold it as soon as charlie outgrew it. charlie liked pretty much any walker (he used a ton of different ones at playspaces), so i don't think it makes a huge difference which one you get. we've tried at least 5 different ones and he was happy with all of them.

A lot of doctors actually dont recommend using a walker because it can cause your LO to develop the wrong muscles and it can actually delay them walking. It's worth doing some research and deciding if that's an issue for you.

That being said, I think the 3rd one looks like the most fun.
