@irene: I'm sorry if what I wrote made you feel bad, I definitely didn't intend it that way! I was just saying that so that people wouldn't think I was condoning lying to daycare ;) If his fever is under the stated temp for daycare then I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with sending him! You have to do what you have to do!

DH and I talked about this and we decided that we would take turns working from home or taking vacation to watch LO. Of course it will depend on who has things that day that they can't miss, but we also don't have any back up so it will have to be us.

My son started day care in February, and we've literally been in the doctor's office so frequently that the receptionist said to me as we left last week "Please let me miss you!" She meant it lightheartedly of course, but as soon as we walked in, she said "HI G!" and told me that we're already checked in.

I know it's tough, hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

@ladyfingers: I wouldn't send him to school if he had a 102. He's borderline 99-100+. Our school only send kids home if they are 101 or above, and yes, we are required to stay away for 24 hours UNLESS if we go to the doc, and get a permission to go back to school because of something non-contagious (eg. ear infection and already got antibiotics...etc). That's our school policy. Please don't make me feel bad than I already feel. (On top of my *dear* husband kept blaming me for not doing it right, eg. not putting enough clothes on him blah blah blah every time LO gets sick / has a fever. We just had a fight on IM this morning about this). Peace.

I am just whining why is this happening to us nonstop... and everytime I thought he was good and start picking up a lot of work, then he goes down like this. God help me.

Our daycare requires 24 hours fever-free before returning -- but of course, people can and do fudge (you don't necessarily need to report that there was a fever on Sunday, I guess). But I would feel really bad doing this, because I wouldn't want other parents to fudge and then get DS sick!

We haven't yet had to deal with this, but I'm fortunate in that work has already said I'm free to bring him in if needed (my boss' 1-year-old comes in with a nanny and there is a nursery for him and a playroom for him and his older brother so there are facilities). Of course I wouldn't want to do this if he were very sick or contagious, but DH often works nights so we could do a split shift if needed, or work is OK and understanding with me needing to take time if LO is sick.

Good luck!

@BabyBoecksMom: Yes I texted her this afternoon. She said she'll be available Monday (tomorrow) from 2:30-5:30, Tuesday Wednesday and Friday, IF no one else call her before me.

@irene: can you call the babysitter and see if she's available (possibly last minute) tomorrow? That way, if you do need her, she'll already be waiting for your call.

I agree with mr bee that the fever could be better by am and in that case I would send to school. I wouldn't take him to pedi tomorrow for a low grade, it probably just has to run its course.

For me, I had to go into vacation deficit when DS had back to back pneumonias but things were manageable at work and it sounds like you are super busy. Hope he turns the corner soon !

@brownie: Lucky you.... DH won't do shifts with me. Not to mention he's going away on business trips 75% of the time in the next 6 weeks. I am operating like a single mom when it comes to baby illness :-(

ETA: Sometimes even if he is doing all fine, daycare may think he's warm, and take his temperature (under arm). They will automatically add 1 degree to the reading. I think we have to pick him up if he's above 101. So if he has 100, they'll automatically call me and ban us from school for at least 24 hours (after fever is cleared) even if LO is eating smiling pooping and sleeping.

A 100 degree fever I may not worry about if my baby was otherwise fine. That can even just be teething. If he acts sick I feel bad missing. But we ultimately take turns. So I would go in at the crack of dawn and come home at lunch. Hubby goes in at lunch and works into the evening and we get 6 hours in each or more.

Whine alert.

How do anyone ever manage to keep working full-time / keep a job with a child at daycare?

LO is 15 months. We started daycare at 12 months. He was sick very often when we first started, we were at the pediatrician every week for recurring ear infections and the zillion bacteria/virus that he managed to pick up. HE was cleared of that for a pretty long while (well, more like weeks). I thought we were good.

Then we went to the infamous "well visit" last tuesday and got a bunch of shots. He developed a fever thursday which I think is shot related. He is better Friday already, but got this nasty cold that gives him a low-grade fever on and off. Today (Sunday), he was pretty much clear of fever the whole day but before bath he was 100.8, after bath was 100.4. Gave him some tylenol before bed. He is just making noises/ crying on and off which means he probably is feeling unwell.

I am just really upset, I have 3 deadlines and juggling 3 projects, working weekends as we speak. I can't afford to miss a day of work not to mention it could be more than a day because we are required to be fever free 24 hours before going back to school! I have no back up childcare option. How am I going to wing it?

I can't help but whine. I am not sure if I should just take him to pediatrician tomorrow morning which I can't afford because I do have to work to catch up with my 3 deadlines, or I should send him to school and wait for them to call me to pick him up. I do have a babysitter she told me she is available Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday if no one calls her. But I hate to book her and ends up LO is all good and fever free tomorrow.

If you have a baby / toddler who's going to daycare and gets sick very often, how do you manage to juggle your job and the unexpected fever ?
