Omg, yes! Is that bad? I usually tell the truth, I really do. My office is really flexible about that stuff. But sometimes I feel silly taking off for certain reasons so I kinda fudge the truth.

No, but my boss is super understanding and very flexible. She's always telling me to take a personal day and not record it if I need to. And she never docks me if I have to come in late or leave early for personal stuff. But if I didn't have such an awesome boss, I probably would have to tell a white lie every so often just to avoid using all of my vacation days for everyday things and not vacation!

I think it's pretty common. I haven't done it but I would. Just don't make a habit of it! There is a woman at my office that must have some sort of chronic disease with all the "doctor's appointments" she is always going to. Though we don't have PTO - it's sick time (which is what you'd use for a doctor's appointment) or vacation time, and we get way more sick time than anyone would reasonably use, so it makes sense why everyone does it.

I've done it before. When I worked part time in high school I called in sick a couple times so I could hang out with my friends.

Yep! I haven't had to much, but there were days here and there -- they don't need to know why... if you have PTO then I think you should use it for when you need to... and not be obligated to disclose what you're doing on your PTO.

I don't want to use anymore PTO until the baby comes (our fiscal year goes July 1 to June 30th). I want to check out a few daycares, though so I'm thinking of just saying I have a doctor's appointment and head out of work early. (I live 30 miles from work and we want a daycare near home, not work).

Have you ever told white lies at work when you had to get something done?
