Thanks everyone! I left the Sleep Pillow app on all night last night. Her wakeups were the same but she went back down a lot easier so maybe it helps?

All night! I also recommend the Homedics over the Dohm. The Dohm doesn't go loud enough for us! We've also used an ocean track from iTunes over and over.

@daniellemybelle: I'll have to try that. She has been waking up on our long car rides and flipping out if she isn't fed and she usually just ate. I just can't pull over every time.

@daniellemybelle: rain, storm and wind, airplane, hair dryer, fan with the dog, white noise/ocean, to name a few. How do you use yours on car rides? I haven't quite figured out the logistics for that one. I think LO would like it if we did.

We have the Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine that stays on all night. We also use a humidifier. It definitely helps drown out our noise and helps her sleep better.
We took the Sleep Sheep on vacation with us abroad (to use batteries instead of an outlet converter) and I was sensitive and awake to keep pressing the button every cycle. She would start stirring and making noises when it'd cycle off.

@QBbride: my SIL still likes white noise to sleep so I don't really think of it as a crutch!

All night. We use an old iPod with speakers. Also have apps on our iPhones or iPad in a pinch. Sleep sheep, was good for road trips and stroller walks when she was younger.

Homemedics soundscape projector and lullaby sound machine. It's like 20 bucks and so effective. It is great at locking out noise and the projector is awesome. We used sleep sheep in beginning to around 8 months when we started using the soundscape and when he started sleeping through the night consistently :)

We still use it at 18 months. I don't think he needs it per we but it's great for blocking out the noise of our house.

We use the sleep sheep (or the giraffe version of it, anyway), mostly because he likes to cuddle with it. It is frustrating that it turns off, but not enough that I want to take away his lovey. Plus at this point (he's 16 months), he'll sleep through us watching TV or whatnot in the other room. Usually when he wakes up it's on his own later on at night, and he can and does turn it back on himself.

ETA: My ILs bought a Marpac Dohm for their guest bedroom for me, and I love it.

We use a sound spa. It was at target and it projects on the ceiling. Sometimes I use my ipad and put it on in the pnp with her. I still use the sound spa for DH and me. It covers up her noise. Sometimes she likes ones that I can't stand. I use the ipad and sleep pillow app whenever she takes a nap, though. If I don't she won't sleep.

@daniellemybelle: we use a basic logitech iPod dock and a free sound app. I wanted all night noise, to cover things like storms, us watching tv, garage opening and closing (nursery is right above the garage) etc. and I thought the sound shutting off might disturb sleep :)

We have the Sleep Sheep and never use it. Now that he's a little older the cessation of noise wakes him up. Instead we bought a humidifier that also has a noise machine. We use that all night. It's a great sleep cue!

Oh another tip for when you are using all night noise-- place the sound machine in between the baby and the likely source of noise-- like if there is a window with street traffic, put it between baby and window. If you are going to be making noise in the other room, between baby and the door.

All night, absolutely. Like others said, it covers up household noise and outside noise. Now if I need to wake C up from a nap, all I need to do is turn the sound machine down and she opens her eyes. I can't imagine using one that turns off right as she transitions sleep cycles.

We just have a basic one that was $20 at Buy Buy Baby. It has multiple options (rain, ocean...) but we just use white noise, per the Moms on Call book.

i don't think it matters as much when they're that young (we didn't use white noise with olive until she was older). but both kids def slept better with white noise when they were older. we have two of the marpac machines.

the sleep sheep would turn off after one sleep cycle, which was definitely not long enough.

We used the white noise app on my phone when she was sleeping in our bedroom, but switched to the sound machine when she started sleeping in her nursery around 8 weeks. I'm not sure how much it helps with STTN, but she's STTN since like 6 weeks..? Mostly I like it because it covers other sounds (us talking, TV, the dog barking, people outside, etc.) that might potentially wake her. At 10 months, it's definitely become a sleep cue for us!

We use an all-night machine. If it ever shorts out or if I accidentally set the timer and it goes off, DD wakes up. That seems to be the biggest negative in the reviews of the sleep sheep. I am not sure whether the white noise held DD sleep better, per se, but it allows us to *live* while she's asleep, rather than tip toeing around our house.
