My daughter has one that I plan to use forever, basically. Her bedroom is next to our living room, so we'd have to tiptoe around without it. I've gotten hooked on hearing it over the monitor, too.

We use our Kindle for white noise. We started around 4.5 months, and I don't foresee us weaning off of it anytime soon. Like, maybe never.

we have white noise on the iPod in his room. We didn't actually start until 7 months - we only started because we moved to a smaller apartment and his room is right off the main room (LR, dining, and kitchen) so all the sounds of us out here he would have been able to hear... we use the WN to drown out us. It's worked!

I don't plan to "wean" him. I know many adults who sleep with white noise and it helps them sleep better. I see no problem with it :)

We started around 6 weeks when we started a bedtime routine. Don't plan on weaning from it anytime soon as it also helps block out the sounds of dh and I going about the apt.

We started from night 1 home and LO is almost 5 months and still white noise is a staple during naps and nighttime. I can't imagine taking him off the white noise anytime remotely soon. We have the conair noise machine, it is awesome.

I don't think I'd try and wean off of it, especially if it's not causing a problem. Our LO had the sleep sheep, then we had a white noise CD in her room for a while. Lately it's been the Fisher Price Oceans Wonders Auqarium on the side of her crib. She knows how to turn it on herself now. When we're away from home, white noise REALLY helps put her into sleep mode. I won't stop using it until it stops working!

For me, I started with the Cloud b travel Sleep Sheep. I kept it first in his bassinet, then in his cradle, and finally his crib. When he started figuring out the velcro strap that held it secure to the crib, I started putting it in on the table next to his crib so he could still hear it but wouldn't have it falling to the floor. Needless to say, after 10+ months of nearly constant napping and nightly use, it was looking a little worn - especially since we would take it with us on long trips and visits with the grandparents.

This Christmas, though, a family friend and doctor gave us a new white noise stuffed animal. It's by myBaby and it's the SoundSpa Glow Puppy, if you're curious. While I'm not as thrilled with the sounds as I was with the Cloud b, my LO enjoys playing with it even when the sound's off and making its belly glow.

I guess I'm wondering how long is a product like this actually helpful? Is there a time to start weaning them off? I'm sure my son doesn't need it to go to sleep - often times, I feel like I turned it on but I don't hear anything so I just leave it rather than fuss with it. So should I just take it out - or the batteries out - and just let him adjust to sleeping without it entirely? What have you done?
