Unfortunately, it's so hard to understand someone's tone when you send a text/email - so that's probably part of the problem.

I use the term Momma all the time talking to expecting friends and new moms (never Mom or Mommy) - to me it's a term of endearment, and shows excitement over the baby.

@PennyLainne - I understand the hormones and not being able to "get over things" - I was the same way when I was pregnant, the littlest things would set me off and then they would just fester inside. Then all that anger would ruin my day/week/weekend and made me an unhappy person at what's supposed to be such a happy time. Best of Luck to you!

I have a couple co-workers who call me "little mamma" since I have been showing. I don't mind at all.

I do think you could have worded your request for your friend not to a little more gently. If I would have gotten the text you sent her, I probably would have called you out as well!

That being said, I really think that you need to let it go! I get pregnant hormones, I really do (I am 25 weeks pregnant), but I really don't think that they excuse going crazy over a minor issue!

Weird, nobody said that to me when I was preggo. All sorts of people call me mommy now, but only when talking to my lo. Which I'm ok with because I want her to know I'm mommy, so that helps. I wouldn't be ok with people calling me mom when my lo isn't around, that's just weird.

At least your friend will probably stop calling you mama now!

Does your friend know about your MC? If not, then that would help explains why she doesn't "get it". That being said, I would not try to argue with you about it. I would have just responded to your original text "Ok".

@mrbee: That's ok. I know it is just my hormones blowing it all out of proportion, and I need to just chill out and let it go... but all she had to say was ok., not that one day my kid will call me it bs.

Edit: Wow I suck at letting things go right now.

@PennyLainne: Now that I have the full context (from your later posts), your text totally makes sense to me!

When I first read it, it did seem strongly worded to me. Sorry, it sounds like that's not what you wanted to hear! :-(

@PennyLainne: I think you had a totally fair request (i.e. please don't call me mama), but your initial request was pretty strongly worded! I think it's not necessarily out of line for her to be taken aback?

@Rubies: She doesn't seem to understand at all. She replied this morning telling me that the term "mom" is significant to ALL moms. And how she is just taken back by a few things. TTYL.

FML. All I asked is that she not call me "mama". Why does it have to get blown out of proportion like this.

@tequiero21: it may be because I lost one not too long ago, and now I am super touchy with it.

@lovelife: Thank you! I am glad I am not alone.

@mrbee: Thank you!
@Rubies: I know she was meaning to be endearing, and I sent her another text trying to explain why I am not comfortable with it. I told her that I know she is meaning it in an endearing way and I told her that I appreciate the thought. And I apologized so hopefully she gets where I am coming from.

When people found out I was pregnant with my LO, my coworkers, who are close friends too, would call me "Mama" just like the way your friend did and I thought it was very cute - they were happy and excited for this new stage in my life and I wasn't bugged by it at all.

Everyone is different and if you don't like being called Mama because it's a special term you for you and your family then that's how you feel. I really do think, though, that your friend was just meaning to be endearing.

I wouldn't fire off an angry text...I think you've made it clear to your friend that you don't appreciate it.

hugs!

I am about 7 weeks pregnant. Well I told one of my friends and she started calling me "mama". Well this really bugs me.

So today she sent me a text "Hey Mama! How's it going?" so I replied "Good. I am going to ask you this and it isn't to be rude. I just don't really like it. Can you please not call me that. I don't know why but it just bugs me. Sorry "

Well she replied "ok then. Just thought you would have a sense of humor." "ttyl" "I'm sure your child will call you that when they learn to talk" .....EXACTLY!!!! My kid will call me that! Not my friends! I was trying to be nice about it and this is what you flipping send me!

So I replied "it's not that. I do have a sense of humor. It has just been a me and DH thing. I am just not ready for it to come from else where." "I really didn't mean it in a rude way. Sorry." ... She hasn't replied.

I seriously don't know why it bugs me so much but I want to be known as mommy to my hubby and my kids. Not my friends. I want to still be me. Just because I am becoming a mom I don't want to lose my identity as well. Half of my friends have lost them selves in their children and the other half have found a nice balance. I want to be part of the later. But seriously I would never call my friends mama or anything. I might bug them about becoming a mom in a fun cutsey way but I would never call them it in every conversation.......

Who calls you mom (or any variation of)? Do any of your friends call you that? Would you be ok with it? Am I wacko for not liking it? Is there any one who would feel the same way I do? Please tell me I am not alone.

I really want to write a hormone driven angry text back but instead I have decided to write it on here. Sorry...
