He had done his OB rotation with the doc who was on call when I delivered, so he made him gown up and deliver him. It helped make up for him having to continue to work his shift at the hospital during the majority of my labor... My husband knew in advance that it would gross him out, so when they asked if he wanted to, he declined. They asked if I wanted to, and I said sure! They do delayed cord clamping, and wait until it's stopped pulsing, so it'd been a little while and I'd already gotten to hold the baby and do skin to skin. I'll do it next time too! My mom cut E's cord, and FIL trimmed it. I had a c-section with G and the OB cut it, but D did trim it that time. He said the nurse just sort of handed him the scissors so he went with it. Before being put on bed rest, I wanted to cut the cord because DH did not. He also got to deliver (well, catch) DD2 - it was an uneventful birth, the doctors knew us, and the maternity ward was quiet that night. Labor was happening so fast DH was kind of in shock and said no. In the middle of pushing the Dr. was like "mom do you want grandma to cut the cord." I was like "I DON'T FUCKING CARE!". haha. DH ended up trimming the cord back when they were weighing him. It was nice that after the shock wore off the nurses tried giving him the opportunity. However, my OB ended up cutting it because she had to whisk him to the other side of the room for some interventions. I wouldn't mind cutting it myself for some future kid, but if DH wanted to try again I would defer to him.
