I would ask your next door neighbor for the scenario you go into labor when LO isn't in daycare. That way they just have to watch her for an hour then your family will be there to take over.

My ILs offered to take her overnight when I go into labor. I ended up have a scheduled induction on a weekday morning. They picked her up after daycare, she spent the night and they took her to daycare the next day. My recovery was easy and I asked to be discharged after 24 hours. DH picked her up the next day from daycare after we got home.

@Corduroy: that does help, actually. I think my BIL would and he is so close, but we will have to check. I have a few close mom friends in the area but they are all pregnant and due before me- so a newborn, a toddler, plus my toddler, would be a little much.

@Corduroy: could you ask your neighbor to be a back up, in case it's the middle of the night? Then if it's daytime and your cousin or whoever can come, no worries, but if it's middle of the night, or labor is crazy fast, she could watch LO for a couple of hours until your family members could relieve her?

When my mom went into labor with my youngest sister, all of their family friends who had said they would watch the rest of us were at the same Boy Scout meeting, pre cell phones. I think my dad had to drive to the meeting and be like, uh could someone help us?

@Foodnerd81: If it helps I WOH and I would happily take time off to watch a niece or nephew in this case.

I feel like WOH has disconnected me from the mommies in my area. I'm in the facebook group but we have made it to 0 events because they conflict with work or we have daycare colds. I know many of they have watched each other's kids. I considered catching up with them over the next few weeks but even if we connected it would be so weird for me to start being active now and then say, "um, can you watch my kids when I go into labor."

@Mrs. Champagne: The friends and family that are about an hour away all have two kids including babies. So while I think they'd be happy to watch LO in their homes it would be an imposition to come to my house and watch her. And if labor is going quickly I wouldn't want DH to drive LO over and come back. I have a cousin without kids in that area too. She would come out for me but the trains don't run in the middle of the night and she doesn't drive.

I really don't know! I'm only 9 weeks so I have time to figure it out, but most of our family is pretty far and work. My parents live about 5 hours away and my mom teaches. Dads schedule is more flexible but I'm not sure he would want to come all the way up here alone and watch C. Bil and his girlfriend both will be living very close, but they work. I sah so we don't have daycare or anywhere for her to go during the day. Plus I'm due 8 days before Christmas.

So yeah, I don't know!

I'll be in a similar situation. I will probably ask my neighbour (she is a good friend) to watch lo until my mom arrives. I'm not pregnant yet, just thinking about possibilities.

Could you ask a friend that's an hour away to come get LO from the daycare? Or come to your house if you go into labour in the middle of the night?

I feel like such a loser because I haven't figured this out and I'm about to be 36 weeks. DD is 2. The people I feel comfortable asking (brother/SIL, close friends) all live an hour away. I'm worried that is too far. My parents will be driving up when I'm in labor to watch LO while I'm in the hospital but they are 8 hours away.

So far my thoughts are LO's in home daycare provider or our next door neighbor with a 4 year old. I'm not worried about LO in either case but I feel awkward asking.

Who did your LO stay with? How far away is too far?
