My mom was my labor coach (with DH, obviously), so she knew, of course. DH called his parents and my BFF SIL when I was admitted, and later (when I was around 7cm), he called my dad and stepmom. My MIL sent an email to our immediate family telling them we were at the hospital (with my okay).

I was induced so everyone sort of knew when that was goon to happen, but my mom was the only one at the hospital (and in the room) with DH and I. When we checked in I had to list the persons I would allow to into L&D and only the people on the list would be allowed back. I only put DH and my mom. Somehow immediately following DS's birth and before they even cleaned me up or I was able to nurse him for the first time my stupid BIL showed up and got back there. I was so irritated! Otherwise noone else came and vistors arrived the next day (DS was born just after midnight).

We called my parents, my inlaws and my brother/sister in law when we were at the hospital. My parents live 2 hours away, my brother lives on the opposite side of the country, by my in laws live 15 minutes from the hospital. They originally wanted to come wait in the waiting room, but luckily they were in the middle of Yellowstone when I had the baby, so they didn't even make it to the hospital until the next day! We got about 5 uninterrupted hours to enjoy our baby and bond as a new family, and it was perfect!! I highly recommend telling people to hold off visiting until you get settled after the birth of the baby.

My husband didn't call our families and tell them I was admitted to the hospital to have the baby until just before I started pushing. Then he turned his phone on silent and put it away until LO was born. Everyone was calling to get more info, but since it was on silent, he could ignore it and be there with me.

I am going to do it the exact same way if we have another.

I decided not to have anyone other than my husband at the hospital when I went into labor. We didnt tell anyone in our families until about an hour after our son was born. I didnt want to deal with half a dozen people hovering out in the hall, waiting for the many hours I ended up in labor (especially because my in laws are fairly advanced in age), and then rushing in to see the baby and passing him around like a football. My husband didnt feel the same but supported my decision 100%. In the end, I was really happy that we were able to spend the first hour alone with our baby. I also was able to take a shower before the first visitors arrived, which was really nice. So absolutely no regrets.

My family is an hour away, and I'd perfer to call after LOnis born. I think I'd feel pressure to get the show moving if people were waiting. The ILs are far away, so there's no worry about them showing up, but constant questions drive DH crazy, so he might not want to tell them until it's over either.

I had been hospitalized for a few days so people knew it was likely. We called my mom after my induction started. DH told his mom because she had promised not to come to the hospital. She came anyway and we made her wait in the waiting room. I must have called my sister at some point too.

My water broke in the morning before I was going on a walk with my neighbor, so we told her and went for the walk. I also texted my doula. On the way home, we called our parents who all live 2-3 hours away. We thought it was no rush so they didn't leave at that point. DH called two hours later to tell them we were going to the hospital and leave when they could. He called 3 hours later to tell them R was born! I didn't want them waiting around either but after she was born, I literally asked DH if he told our parents that we were there! I was so concentrated on laboring!

Our plan is to tell our parents. Each set lives over 5 hours away, so if they want to come even in time to see us in the hospital, they'll need to start thinking about travel/accommodations as soon as it's confirmed to be the real thing.

First time, our parents right away. And they told everyone else (we didn't mind). We had a room full of people while I was in labor and I didn't mind it then but it really was tiring.

Second time, just my mom. She met us at the hospital to help with DS1. DS2 was born right after 4am so we waited a few hours to tell everyone, didn't wait to wake everyone up.

Parents and siblings were allowed to know. They already knew they were only allowed in the waiting room though. They came up to say hi for a few minutes then let me be. Dh texted updates. We told them ahead of time that we were doing skin to skin for at least an hour so they already knew it would be awhile before we let them in.

All of our families. DH called his family and they told all of their friends. I only told my parents and best friend but then my sisters and grand parents found out through my mom.

I hated that everyone wanted in the delivery room minutes after both were born! I told DH that I just wanted my mom to know in case of an emergency but he wanted his family to be there.

No one! I thought my water broke and didn't want to call anyone if it was a false alarm. Sure enough, it did break-I had a precipitous birth though and labored and delivered in barely over 2 hours...from 11pm to 2 am! We didn't even have time to call anyone.

I'm interested in this too. We live pretty far from both parents so I'm not too worried about people coming too soon. I think we will call our parents when we get settled in the hospital. I might talk to my sister earlier, depending on what time things start moving. We'll have to tell BIL early on since he'll be watching our dog-- he's the only local family. I'm sure he won't come before we tell him too though.

My parents have said they will drive up as soon as I go into labor, but since it's a 5 hour drive I'm OK with it. I'll just tell them not to come straight to the hospital unless I say so, I guess. The inlaws are a cross country flight away anyway.
