@BlueWolverine: Glad it was something else and you don't have to change up your mornings.

I do both. Mainly because we only have one car seat in my car. Hopefully in the next month or so we can get a second seat and DH can either do drop off.

Since my son is a late-riser (usually 8am), our plan is to have my Mom do the morning dropoffs. We haven't started daycare yet, but plan to within the next couple months. My husband works 7am-3:30pm and when school starts back up, I will be at work from 8am - 4/4:30pm each day. As a result, my mom has offering to help with dropoffs. She will also do pickups at 2:30 and watch him for a couple hrs until my husband gets home from work. It's not the most conventional method, but I'm hoping it will work for us.

Most days we ride together so we do both together. On days we don't ride together it is pretty evenly split! However, I'm solely in charge of morning and night duty 99% of the time.

So, in a lesson for the future, I completely overreacted. DH just wanted to talk about me making sure I'm gone before she wakes up, because if she can hear me moving around, she pitches a fit when I'm not in the house in the morning.

Hubs drops off and I pick up. That way he can stay at work late should he need to (he has his own company). I need to be at work by 9, and since I work for a company, he understands that and does the drop off. Plus, LO is more attached to me than daddy so she doesn't fuss for him when he drops her off, but when I do the occasional drop off, she cries and says, "I stay with mommy" when I drop her off.

It varies completely dependent on our schedules. My schedule changes every semester and DH's changes every quarter.

For this quarter, he will do drop offs every morning because I need to be at class or work by 8am 5x a day, whereas he often doesn't have to start until 9 or 10 some days. Some days I will be done by 4 or 5 and get him, other days I work late, so he gets him at 6. Daycare is right next door, so it works fine either way.

It would be different if daycare was next to one of our jobs - I would probably either try to divvy it up so we both take turns, or have the person whose work daycare is closest to, take on the responsibility. But you have to take LO's needs into consideration. If she's unhappy getting up and ready an extra hour earlier, there has to be some collaboration on what works best.

I do drop off because DH goes to work at 5am. I drop T off around 7:30-7:45 and I'm at work at 8. DH picks him up because he gets off earlier than I do (about 3:30)and it's on his way home, versus a huge trip out of the way for me.

DH does both because daycare is right next to his office, a 10 min walk from home. I work a 45 min commute away, and leave well before daycare opens. If DH has a meeting or something else that interferes with drop off/pick up, then I work from home and do it, but it's usually him.

ETA - I work 7:30-4:30, and he works 8-4:30.

I voted other, but one thing that worked for my son, who had tough drop offs and pick ups for a year, was to give him a task to do in the morning, like bring a sticker to the director, etc. It took the focus off the drop off and turned it into something that he had control over. Could be a trick you can implement...i learned it from another, more senior mom who also had a long period of rough drop offs.

I do both because school is open 6:30-6 and DH is typically gone from the house 5:30-6:15. That means I do the whole morning myself. It is a pain trying to get LO up and out but we have a good routine now. When DH was off a few months and did most of the pick up and drop off, it took a little adjusting but then she did fine.

What time does she wake up to get there at 9? My LO now gets up at 6:45 to leave the house at 8, which gets us to school around 8:15 and me to work by 8:30 or so. When LO was that age, it was more like getting up at 6 to leave at 8. I don't know what we did all morning but it took a while!

I do drop off and SO does pick-up. It was easy for us to determine this because he can never do drop-off since he leaves around 7/7:30 a.m. Occasionally, I will have to leave work early to do pick-up when he has an afterschool meeting or parent/teacher night.

Honestly, in this situation, I could see why you would do both since they are near your job, if he has to drive there to drop off and then back home to work, but I do understand about having more time in the evenings to spend with your girl.

My SO does drop off which is at least 15 minutes in the wrong direction for him and I do pickup. However, I start work at 7 so if I did drop off it would mean everyone would have to get up significantly earlier in the morning. Also I do pick up since she's on my way home from the office.

E's daycare is 15 minutes from my office, and 30 minutes from home. D never works before 12, but most days I do both drop-off/pick-up. If I'm heading in this way anyway it doesn't make sense for D to waste the gas driving to the daycare, then 45 minutes to work (he works in the opposite direction) when I drive that way anyway (it's a little bit out of my way, but not obnxiously).

@BlueWolverine: This sounds similar to our situation too!

DH works from home and daycare is near my work. DH has always done drop-off because I work 7:30am-4:30pm and daycare doesn't even OPEN until 8:30am, so me taking her means arriving 90 mins late to work - not an option other than every once in a while.

It's a pain for DH because he has to drive 25-30 mins each direction to get LO to daycare, then turns around and drives home if he doesn't have a meeting. But we love our daycare and it's less expensive than those closer to our new house, so right now we are rolling with it.

LO is almost 15 months and DH manages pretty well in the morning, other than this morning when I had to leave work to go home and intervene because he was physically unable to parent her (she's on day #5 of getting up at 4:30am and we're both at a breaking point). Usually he just deals with doing mornings alone. I leave work around 4:15pm and get home with LO around 5pm and she goes to bed around 7pm.

Well, I am the wrong person to ask, because I am currently a little tired of doing drop off and pick up. Well, I love pick up (she's happy and excited to see me), but drop offs... not so much. It is a JOB to get her ready in the morning, pack her lunch, get her to eat breakfast, and get her in the carseat when she's resisting...then when we get there she doesn't want to hold my hand to walk in, and then wails like crazy when I leave... makes me feel terrible. The whole thing makes me feel like I've run a marathon by the time I've gotten to work. She is almost 20 months, and I would say it's been more of a struggle the last month or two.

Am I selling it? No way you are going to want to take over that duty after all that! :) Maybe you could offer to give him a break and do it for a set period of time?

ETA: Our babysitter picks up LO two nights a week on my long days. She usually gets picked up around 5:30. I usually drop off LO around 8, but on Thursdays I have to drop her off between 7-7:30am.

@BlueWolverine: We didn’t really adjust her sleep routine at all; when my husband did drop-offs LO could sleep in until whenever, but of course being a toddler she is always gets pretty early; LO is 25 months BTW, and we’ve had this schedule since she was 16 months.

She sleeps from 8-6:30ish and we leave by 7:45, which gets me to work by 8:30 after dropping off LO. I try to leave earlier, but it doesn’t usually happen. I get out by 5:30 and we’re home by 6, or just after. We don’t do a bath every night, which means most nights she has 2 hours to pay, read, eat dinner, and get down to bed.

I can commiserate. We are always arguing about the dropoff/pickup duties. He is a pharm rep so his job is rather flexible so he does dropoff most of the time. Our daycare is pretty far out of my way but in his sales territory so most of the time that works. Sometimes though he will have an early appt and that's when it falls on me to do.

As far as pickup, its pretty much whoever gets off first does the pickup. Both of our jobs don't have a set endtime so it varies day to day.
