I'm a SAHM as well so I do most of the physical work. On the weekends, the hubs helps out whenever he can but he tends to help ME out (groceries, errands, chores, etc.) so that I can focus on LO without feeling the need to do something else. In terms of mental, I think I do most of it, too. I research everything, read up on things, and make decisions. I include the hubs in everything but because I'm at home, I just have more opportunity to do all this. Once I go back to work, it'll be interesting to see how this all changes.

I would say I do 85% of the mental and physical work for LO. My husband helps out with the LO when he gets home (mostly by playing with her) but while he's doing that, I'm making our and her dinner, prepping her bath, and cleaning things up. And while he does do an awesome job planning for her future (college, etc), I handle just about everything else (food, clothes, discipline, etc.)

But in all fairness, he does more than enough in other non-baby areas and is a great father.

i think i do more of the mental work. timewise i probably do more of the physical work too but that one is more balanced.

I'm a SAHM, so I do most of the physical work. My hubby helps a lot when he's home, but that's just for a couple of hours before LO has to go to bed.

And I do most of the mental work too... but that's probably just because I spend so much time with her.

I read a book where the dad thought he did 50% of (physical) childcare... but the mom said it was more like 60%/40%. She added that she did 85% of the mental work around making decisions and anticipating problems for the kids, while the dad did only around 15%.

How much of the physical childcare do you and your SO do? How about the mental planning for your LO's future?
