It's amazing, actually. He does a fantastic job--we've got little native trees (that we give away when they get too big for their pots), bright flowers, some herbs, a few fruit trees, the works. Our neighbors and the property manager stop to complement it all the time. Everyone except the woman in the apartment below us (who sees DH out there watering and trimming and repotting) thinks I do it for some reason. I set them straight. I'm looking forward to having an actual garden someday so he can really go to town! </p> <p>@Dandelion: Us too (minus the mowing; we have concrete steps and a patio, not grass)! I am a compulsive buyer of plants. He started everything from seeds, and has been in charge of it all. We just got new sod 3 weeks ago, and due to his travel schedule, I've pretty much been in charge of watering the entire yard (no sprinkler system this year!) and the "garden." </p> <p>I'm guessing I'll put him in charge of the first mowing (which will be miserable), but after that, I have no problem helpin' out with mowing the grass--he'll definitely do it if he's home, but if he's gone for a long time, I'll take care of it if I need to. He still does most of it and my Mum will randomly plant flowers and veggies and tend to them. We've only recently (this past year) lived in a place with a garden, so it's a new chore for us to figure out! I usually don't mind the weeding, so I'll do that from time to time and get DH to mow. He's never excited about it, and I have to remind him several times, but it gets done. Since I am preg and have just moved out of our last place, we ended up having a gardener come and sort it all out for us. If you don't want to/can't manage it at the moment, I'd delegate it to your DH to do. It's a jungle out there! I worked really hard on it last summer but since being pregnant I haven't felt up to doing the heavy stuff. I've kept the front garden looking nice and planted some flowers but the 110ft back garden - no chance! I've included some pics of last year (sob sob sob, it looks so terrible now!!). </p> <p>It's a bone of contention for us because I came from a family where it was firmly the man's job - it was a household chore - and my dad had to do it (in addition to the general tasks like mowing the lawn, my mum would often request certain flowers etc and my dad would plant them). DH, however, came from a family where his mother did most of the gardening because she loved it (she still does). He thinks of the gardening not as a chore but as a hobby - and one he doesn't participate in because he, personally, doesn't enjoy it. </p> <p>This creates problems for us - as I don't feel like I should have to do it and neither does he!!!!
