I"m more of an optimist and he's more of a pessimist, I feel like he needs to learn to look for the brighter side in things and always goes to the "dark" side too quickly (he gets in moods.) I think we balance each other out.

I thik pessimist drive me more bonkers, especially those who ONLY see the negative!

I'm more of an optimist than the DH and he is differently the pessimist. I think it can be more emotionally exhausting having someone so pessimistic. DH isn't pessimistic all the time and there are times when the roles are reversed and I'm more pessimistic. But generally I am more optimistic than him.

@Cherrybee: studies have shown that pessimists are a much more accurate judge of probability than us optimists... they are indeed the realists!

However as an optimist, I believe that sometimes you need to be a bit delusional to make your dreams come true!

Hmm. I'm not even sure what we both are. I think we're both in between. I like to always have a back-up plan for the worst case scenario, whereas DH is just normally conservative. But our outlook is generally the same. My main gripe is more about reactions. Swedes are generally stoic. It's really hard to get a reaction!

Mr. Jacks is an optimist. I'm not either, but I've found his optimism infectious. I do get bothered by some of his very unrealistic schemes and ideas, but I try to redirect rather than crush ;)

True pessimists sometimes drive me crazy when they refuse to see a solution to their problem, even if there is one.

@mrbee: My husband and I are the opposite of you guys! I am the optimist, and my husband is a pessimist! We are SOOO great for each other! When we first started going to premarital counseling, we were told that we are absolute opposites of each other in every way!

I really think that it's harder for the optimist. (me in this case) I feel like I'm always the one looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, and sometimes it seems like there's no one "cheering" for me, you know? Don't get me wrong DH is a great encouragement, but it's just hard when you are set in your ways, and are used to the same way of thinking. But we challenge each other quite often to view a situation or circumstance from the other perspective.

Im an optimist and DH is a chronic pessimist. I think the optimist finds it harder because the pessimist crushes your dreams on a daily basis!! Certainly, in our relationship, the pessimist kinda enjoys bringing the optimist back to earth with his "realism". Ugh, realism - for all of you who claim to be "realists" YOU ARE PESSIMISTS! That's the pessimist's battle cry! Dreams do you true, you gloomy gits!!

For us, I am the optimist and DH is the realist/pessimist. It's probably equally frustrating to both of us but it really bothers me because I feel like a negative view affects your mood too.

I think an optimist would drive a pessimist more crazy . . . the optimist would find a *silver lining* about being paired with a pessimist, while a pessimist would just be throwing more *doom and gloom* on the fire!

Both DH and I trend towards the optimist side of things, but I don't think we're extreme.. maybe we're realist optimists?

Personally, pessimists drive me a little crazier, but maybe that's because I'm more of an optimist!

Both DH and I are optimists. He a little more than I. I prefer the term realist. While I value positivity, I also am very realistic with my expectations and aspirations. DH is more of a big-dreamer style optimist :)

I however, have a hard time being in relationships/friendships with pessimists because they can be negative and that really brings me down.

@mrs. wagon: I agree with that.. I crush my DH's visions of grandeur all the time. But I think on a day to day basis, he drives me more crazy that I drive him because he just can't deal in reality, which is happening every single day...

Wagon Sr. is an optimist while I am a pessimist. I think he drives me more crazy because I'm always having to bring him back down to earth (aka remind him of facts that he's already aware of, but forgot because he was too busy dreaming!) but I do think I crush his spirit more. So maybe the optimist drives the pessimist crazy, but the pessimist really discourages the optimist.

I'm with @Lindsay05: I think of myself as a realist! My husband is a total optimist and I always kid him about seeing life through Rose-colored glasses (his family name is Rose). The whole bunch of them are uber-positive types and they drive me a little crazy

His optimism drive me nuts. I think he is entertained by my pessimistic...I mean, realistic, attitude.

Hm… I don't know! I also don't know who is who in our relationship. I think we're both positive about different things. I tend to be much more optimistic/excited about bigger stuff. Like I go crazy for holidays and vacations and I get so hyped about it all, whereas my husband is a bit more "ugh this again?"

But then again I tend to get a little more pessimistic about the day-to-day (especially mornings/mondays) and my husband (who likes his job) is all la-dee-da it's a beaaauutiful day and I want to punch him because it should be illegal to be cheerful before 10am or on Mondays. :)

I am an optimist and Bee is a bit more of a pessimist! In the grand scheme of things, it's a really healthy balance... but day to day, I think we're both surprised at how the other person can be such an optimist/pessimist haha!

Who drives the other person more crazy:

* an optimist in a relationship with a pessimist - The optimist has to hear negative takes on all their rosy scenarios, crushing their enthusiasm and varied hare-brained schemes. But some babies may get thrown out with the bath water... i.e. some great ideas might get lost in the mix.
* a pessimist in a relationship with an optimist - They have to hear all these crazily positive slash possibly delusional scenarios, and constantly have to be the bad guy and bring things back down to earth.

Who drives the other person more crazy: an optimist or a pessimist? And while we're at it: are you and your SO both optimists, pessimists, or are you guys mismatched?
