I have had bad migraines for years. My triggers are stress, fatigue, and I think some preservatives (still trying to figure that out!). I'm allergic to ibuprofen and aspirin, and tylenol doesn't even take the edge off, so usually I just go to bed and try to sleep it off.

@MrsJacks: Agreed! Pre-pg, my drug of choice was Imitrex injections. Because I get horribly nauseated when I have a migraine, it was the only thing that ever worked for me.

@MrsBlue: From Weeks 16-21, I had daily intense migraines. They were so bad that even after falling asleep, I would wake up if/when the migraine intensified (and it did regularly). I worked with a Neuro and my OB to find a safe method to manage my migraines during the pregnancy (it included, among other things, benadryl and fioricet, and the option to take a narcotic, but nothing got rid of them, it just took the edge off). It sure made for a long (and frustrating) 5 weeks. I have only had a few since then (I am 24 weeks now), but they haven't been nearly as intense, and don't last for days on end.

@Mrs. Jacks: wha.....30 minutes!!!! I am in awe.

I think I'm going to talk to my doctor. While they don't happen every day or even every week, I feel completely debilitated when they happen. Boo. Thanks for all the input, ladies!

Sumitriptan is headache medicine of the gods. It's worth going to get the full neuro eval to have this stuff on hand. All my migraines (and I get them often) are cured within 30 minutes. I couldn't live without it!

FYI, when I went to CVS to get some more Excedrin Migraine a few weeks ago, the pharmacist told me they didn't have that anymore but that the CVS brand Extra Strength Headace Relief has the same things (acetaminophen, aspirin, & caffiene). For those of you whom like Excedrin Migraine, maybe look for this.

I have gotten migraines for years. At one point in my life, I was getting them daily. My triggers are stress, weather (when it's going to rain, I know it before anyone else), and lack of sleep. I finally saw a headache specialist. He had me start taking 1000mg of magnesium because they've found that people with chronic migraines have low mag levels. He also had me start taking melatonin to help with sleep. For a rescue medication, I took Excedrin Migraine )until they pulled it off the shelves) or Aleve. If that didn't work, I have a prescription for stronger Aleve and Reglan (helps with stomach upset from the stronger Aleve, also relaxes me a bit). If that doesn't work, I have a nasal spray called Migranol that is like a miracle drug.

Since I started the magnesium and the melatonin, I've seen a significant decrease in my migraines. Like, going from missing work once a month to missing work once every 4 months. And luckily the magnesium was cleared as safe for me during pregnancy. Melatonin isn't, but I'm hoping I'll be ok without it.

Good luck! It is awful to live with migraines!

Mine are almost always triggered by bright lights (like the computer monitor or going from a dark room/bright room). So I try to avoid these types of situations and always wear sunglasses when I'm outside. It took me a while to figure it out but for a while, I was getting migraines every day for 3 or 4 days. My husband pointed out the fact that I was on my iphone in the dark right before sleep. I stopped doing that and my migraines have stopped. I also used to get them at work a lot until I placed a privacy filter on my computer monitor. Haven't had one in a while.

I get migraines that are triggered by the weather- mostly when the weather changes, specifically when it gets overcast and rainy. Usually I can catch it really early and just get a headache, take Sudafed, and a pain reliever, and I'm OK. Excedrin Migraine definitely helps a lot but I think they pulled all Excedrin from the shelves! I finished our last bottle so I had to get Advil Migraine, which also seems ok.
However, the first month after stopping birth control, I had a bunch of really wicked menstrual migraines. I never noticed them connected to my cycle before, but I had so many in one month that I finally put it together. My regular remedies took the edge off, but nothing really made me feel better except sleep. Thankfully, they seem to have subsided now that I'm over a month past stopping.

@Mrs. Blue: I wouldn't get your hopes up. I thought that too and waited my whole life to get pregnant so my migraines would go away, and no luck. They got worse!

I know my triggers, but the problem is that pretty much everything is a trigger for me. Certain food, wine, etc I can stay away from, but there's also changes in weather, hunger, carrying things on my shoulder, bright light, loud noise, heat, cold, etc, etc, etc.

I have been to a million doctors and had all sorts of meds and treatments. I did acupuncture, chiropractor, neurofeedback therapy, biofeedback, prescription meds, natural meds, botox, etc. I also get massages and love them, they seem to actually help a lot too.

I recently had surgery and had a nerve stimulator put in my neck. But this is something for people who have tried everything, get lots and lots of migraines, and have no other choice really, so it doesn't sound like it would be good for you.

Little things that help are peppermint oil, and catching it early. Right when you feel the migraine coming on, take meds.

@mrsjyw: I'm hoping they'll magically go away when I get pregnant!

@Nskillet: I'm off BC. I haven't noticed a big difference from when I'm on or off it. I get little black spots in my vision and sometimes I throw up, depending on how quickly I catch it and take something.

@Mrs. Blue: Are you on birth control? Mine are entirely hormone triggered and also triggered by artificial sweeteners (I cant drink crystal light for example) When n birth control my migraines were out of control. DH and I made the decision to natural family plan and they have been a million times better.

I was on the excedrine migraine diet for awhile too but those pills tear my tummy up. Id end up with both diarreah and vomittig so I stick to extra strength aleve or something similar and then sleeping them off. My migraines are accompanied by aura and numbmess/tingling they suck!

I've always had tension headaches and migraines. Thankfully, throughout the pregnancy I've been blessed! I only had a week of bad migraines and for the most part, have been headache free!

Prior to pregnancy, I've tried immitrex and excedrin migraine. Naps, sleeping, and honestly just time... :(

I get regular headaches a lot and migraines occasionally. I've never totally been able to figure out what triggers them, other than I definitely am more likely to get one if I am super stressed out and very tired . . . like this week while I'm trying to pack and move houses on the spur of the moment. I don't have prescription meds for them, so I take some Excedrin Migraine, put a cold cloth over my eyes, and try to go to sleep in a dark, quiet place.

Do you know what triggers your migraines? What are your tricks to make them go away more quickly?
