@T.H.O.U.: considering the 2.5 yr old tossed a full, intact roll of toilet paper in the toilet, then fished it out the other day....containment is key.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Benjamin Moore edgecombe grey or revere pewter for most of the house. Definitely Grape Ice for DD2, struggling with light true pinks for DD1, a compatible color for the Jack & Jill bath (maybe a lighter pink or something between the pink/purple shades of the bedrooms). I like sweet sixteen, Bermuda breeze, or May Flowers for DD1; peppermint, misty rose, or cotton candy for the bathroom). DD3, I may also do pink or more of a pale coral. It needs to go with the Pillowfort unicorn (the only piece of nursery decor I've bought). :)

Thank you everyone for weighing in - it's good to hear some other opinions!

@T.H.O.U.: this might be the best point I've heard - if the baby is in this room, I can just close off the bathroom. I'm giving up my cleaning lady as a cost cutting measure, and would love to clean one less bathroom!

&PurplePeony: I like this idea. But I'm afraid she'll throw me a curveball, like choose the smallest room, then change her mind and absolutely freak out about it. We are at that age....

@caterw: the 2.5 year old will definitely be sad not to share a bedroom anymore.

@Tanjowen: this is my reasoning (being able to sleep in the baby's room if I have to, or displace her/let her bunk up with me or a sibling if we have two sets of guests at once).

.@jhd: @catgirl: definitely leaving it open to switching down the road....after the sting of the cost of painting wears off!

Oldest in the room with the shower. Youngest two in the Jack & Jill.

What are the paint colors are you thinking of?

I think having the oldest two being in the Jack and Jill makes the most sense- they might actually get lonely if they aren't close to each other. My brother and sister shared until my little brother was 7-8 and he got really lonely when we moved and my mom put my sister and I together.

I would have the oldest two in the rooms with the shared bath and the baby in the largest room. But I would be open to the youngest and oldest switching one day so the oldest has her own bathroom.

I agree with maybe putting the baby in room A and having all three girls share the jack and Jill bathroom. Keep the en suite bathroom with the door in the hallway clean. Don't clean an extra bathroom if you don't have to!

@PinkElephant: Your house setup is exactly like my neighbors! She put her oldest 2 in the jack and jill and the baby in the ensuite room. They are all now in middle school and everyone seems very happy. She said it was great because the nights she slept in the baby's room she had a bathroom to use and lots of space for a bed.

Personally, I would give the 4 year old first dibs on choosing the room she wants, then put the other two in whatever configuration makes sense based on that.

I'd have the two oldest share the jack and jill and keep the baby in the room closest to your room. And then be willing to switch them around when they get older and have stronger opinions on it! :)

@catomd00: I hear you on that! I currently share a very small and poorly laid out bathroom with my DH and kids. It's wearing on me! We do you have another bathroom in the apartment, but it's not on the same level so no one ever showers in it

@wheres_c: @catomd00: this was my original plan, since the big girls already share a room - keep them close together, and give them the closets, and trust them to pester each other by sneaking.through the bathroom.

@mrsrain: @clover: this is what my MIL and SIL assumed I would do...and now I'm wavering towards maybe doing it. But I think it will be many years before my four year old sees the value in this room. I'm afraid she'll feel left out if the other two share the jack & jill, and that the bathroom isn't actually that useful to her right now without a tub. She'd probably go bathe with the other two anyway, for now. Lastly I was thinking that the baby is the easiest to displace in the event we have multiple guests and want to use her room as a second guest room for a few days. But...yeah. Long term, i think it's fairest that the oldest gets the big room (or, is it fairest to give it to the youngest since presumably she'd occupy it the longest. So many ways to look at it!

Anyway, DD1 is a great negotiator, so I trust that if down the road she wanted the other room, she might be able to talk her way into it and get another sister to swap.

I'd put the 4 and 2 year old in the Jack and Jill rooms with the plan to put the youngest in the princess room. That way there's bigger closets for the older ones, and I'd feel safer about them having easier "access" to a bath. They also are more likely to play together so being next to each other is nice.

We are moving into a house (much larger than our current apartment!) with enough bedrooms to give each of our three daughters their own room. I thought I knew from the beginning who was getting each room, but now that I need to choose paint colors, I'm second guessing my plan. The bedrooms are:

A) The "princess suite" - definitely the largest; has its own ensuite (which also has a door to the hall) bathroom with a shower only (no tub). Closet is decent sized but not walk in; room also has an extra closet (set up like a linen closet, but doesn't need to be used for common storage - there are plenty of other closets). It is across from the master.

B) the next biggest bedroom; has a huge walk in closet and shares a jack & Jill bathroom (with a bathtub) with room C. Kind of in the middle of the floorplan "behind" bedroom A and next to C.

C) the smallest room (but still plenty big!); has a huge walk in closet identical to bedroom B; shares the jack and Jill bathroom. Is sort of next to the master (separated by laundry room).

All rooms have good light and are equidistant from the stairs; none are really far from the master - the entrances all open onto a central landing

The girls are 4 years, 2.5 years and 3 weeks (so she will mostly sleep in my room for awhile). They're all pretty good sleepers. Currently the 4 and 2.5 year old share a room - its fine aside from some bedtime silliness but I think the 4 year old is kind of over it and ready for her own space. We have a guest bedroom, playroom (living room), and office (dining room) planned for the first floor, so no one NEEDS to share, but technically still could.

So...how would you distribute these rooms? Your solution doesn't have to include one room per child, at this point I am open!!

ETA: currently between the three of them we have three convertible cribs and one dresser...and won't be able to buy more furniture right away...in case that influences your opinion!
