Big props to all of you who had unmedicated births -- especially those who were induced. I made it through 3 days of labor with no epidural, but then wound up getting one only 1 hour before my daughter was born. The only reason I got the epidural then was that I was on a pitocin drip at that point and the pitocin contractions are *horrible*, and then the doctor checked me and told me it would be at least 2 more hours until I would be ready to push. So I caved and got the epidural, and then 30 minutes later was ready to push the baby out. My epidural was great though, so no real complaints here. I would like to try again for an unmedicated birth next time!

I was hoping for a med free birth and actually labored until I was completely with no pain meds but was rushed into a c section since DS was breech! I was disappointed, but like @cyndistar3, no hospital around here really delivers breech. I sometimes wish that i could have delivered breech but I actually met a girl in our youth group that has had serious hip problems due to being delivered breech, multiple surgeries, and uses crutches. I just had to trust that God was protecting our little family and knew what was best.

@Mrs. Pen: Absolutely! If I had of known what I was feeling was as bad as it was going to get, I wouldn't have wanted the epi. I was terrified it was supposed to get worse lol... I wasn't about to go there!

Med free here! Although I feel kinda guilty cause I'd caved and asked for an epi. My OB kept telling me I wasn't progressing and I was in unimaginable pain so I chickened out not wanting to experience transition. Turns out... I went from 4-10 in a VERY short time and was in fact transitioning when they said I'd stalled. In the end, due to some other complications, they held off on getting me an epi and before I knew it I was ready to push and made it through without anything.

@cyndistar3: when I had to be transferred to the hospital, my midwife had a partnership with a hospital a half hour away (over an hour away for me) and the reason they chose that hospital is because its the only hospital in our area/state that delivers breeched babies! I had a friend who delivered her breech baby there.

For my first birth I had no meds and it was awesome even though I was in labor for 48 hours! With my second I had to have a c-section since she was breech and no one will do breech births around here, so yea I was totally drugged up :(

@Mrs. Pen: Unmedicated almost homebirth here!!! After learning even more about myself & labor this time we're really believing next time I won't "need" to transfer. I LOVED my unmedicated birth & don't think I could ever go back to the traditional medicated way.... Thinking about actually birthing our future children is was kept me open to even having more kids through P's colic & tummy issues! Lol

Pathetic part- I went to my friend's work today (she's a RN) and had some tears when her co-worker had to use a needle to remove a splinter. Oy.

I had a med free birth, but went from 4 to 10 cm in 1.5 hours, so I wasn't in pain for very long! I also forgot the pain pretty fast and was ready to do it all again by the time LO was 2 months old!

@mrskc: I agree - I thought it would be more awful. I remember thinking right after "that wasn't too bad."
BUT, I'm so not ready to do it again. LO is 2 months & I've only just conceded that maybe, in the far future, I MIGHT want to have another. Mostly, I'm dreading the last 3 weeks of pregnancy more so than birth.

@mrskc: hahaha speak for yourself!! My sister said the same thing, she pretty much forget the pain after just a couple weeks and was fine to do it again sometime... It took me 6 months to get over the trauma of birth and feel like I could even potentially begin to think about having another one 5 years down the road. He is 9 months old now and I know I want another baby but the part that scares me the most is going through birth again.

I was terrified of the pitocin so I got an epidural... which didn't work. Like, didn't work AT ALL. So, I feel like I still dealt with all the pain without help.

I wanted a med-free birth. When we go to have another baby, I want to try for it again.

Induced with no epidural. My midwife suggested some fentanyl after the 2nd hour of pushing so I could relax between pushes. I remember that I felt more relaxed but I don't remember it numbing any of the sensation!

Unmedicated but I wasn't induced. Major props to you for doing it with an induction.

It's funny how right afterwards I never wanted to do it again but now that time has passed I feel like I could totally go thru it all again... In a couple years tho. I also found it interesting how quickly you forget about the pain. You know it was painful but it's not traumatizing. Our bodies are truly amazing!

@Mrs. Pen: I had originally wanted to go completely natural but it hurt so bad that I couldn't relax so I decided to get one. I had the IV in place already for antibiotics and fluids (the fluids because I was stressing out about the pain). She was about to call to get them to come place the epidural when I was at an 8 and she noticed I was involuntarily pushing so the doctor told me he would strongly suggest going with the Nubain to relax in between contractions.
