I do bedtime on the weekends. She has always been a terrible sleeper, so it doesn't really matter who is putting her down. It wasn't that way until DH started doing bedtime every other night. He does it differently, and more playfully, so it takes a little longer, but our competency is the same. But it's to be expected since I have handled the majority of the bedtimes, due to nursing before bed. Every now and then, like last night, I ask DH to do it, partly for some me time and partly so he gets more comfortable with it. He did everything for 2 weeks this summer when I was away on a work trip, but usually forgot parts of the routine, like teeth brushing(!) and added others, like a pacifier. The teeth brushing is the only big thing, in my mind. Last night, I was there for the early part of the routine, and he did a really good brush, and then even gave him Ambesol (molar is coming up and has been really rough on LO), even tho he first asked if I would do it, since I'm "better" at it (his word). How else to you get better? He's wonderful at getting him to sleep tho, and how we get there, and what songs or books we sing/read doesn't matter. There isn't much to the bedtime routine, but I don't think DH actually notices what I do on purpose. For instance after I change the baby I turn off all the lights except the night light. By the time that stalling's peaked, I'm so tired and hungry that my patience is toast. The baby's bedtime is easier since it's just change, a couple of books, and bedtime. Even with bath, his bedtime takes 30 minutes tops. He is stubborn and difficult to manage at any time of the day but especially worse at night. Maybe I'm very slightly more efficient (by a hair) because I lay things out before I need them (like PJ's), but he does it more often Id say. Bedtime routine was something I was adamant we both had to do so DS didn't NEED one of us every night, if one of us was traveling or sick it wouldn't matter, etc. Plus I SAH and sometimes by bedtime I just can't. Lol. DH is home for it 90% of the time so I lean on him a lot for that. I think DH and I both do pretty well with the bedtime routine for the girls. The only thing he struggles with (or maybe he just has more patience with) is the stalling. I get out of their rooms much faster than he does when I'm doing the routine.
