I've done a few paleo challenges where I really cut sugar but have never really 100% eliminated it for any length of time.

I've seen people have good luck with the 21 day sugar detox from balanced bites. I think she has online resources and maybe a monthly Facebook group.

I did it a few years ago and I went cold turkey and cut out ALL sugars. No fruit, no sweeteners, no honey, and nothing with added sugars. It was hard because there's sugar in everything, it seems! I'm about to do it again this week.

I'm not looking to cut out fruit, but I do want to consume way less refined sugar, junk in general, and gross sweeteners like Splenda. I especially think this is a good idea during pregnancy. Wish I could find a good website/resource for baby steps though!

I have several times. For me, it's all sugar, or else I have wicked cravings and can't do it. Honey, maple syrup, everything. I usually cut white carbs at the same time.
For me, it helps with my insulin resistance, gets rid of my sugar cravings, and definitely helps with weight loss. I also just feel better when I'm off sugar.

The first four days are always hardest for me. After two weeks, I can have a cheat occasionally.

I followed Sarah Wilson's 8 weeks program; http://iquitsugar.com/8-week-program/ except I went cold turkey from the start. I am (was?) a bit of a health freak & always trying to improve my diet. It is pretty extreme & cuts out most sweeteners & even some fruits. After the 8 weeks I ate extremely low amounts of sugar for about a year but reintroduced some of the higher fructose fruits & had the odd treat. Then I got pregnant & at week 6 couldn't face anything other than carbs & sugar. At 21 weeks + 4 I am still on a bit of a sugar binge but hoping to cut down again :bummed: benefits included clearer skin, more energy, weight loss, less bloating & generally feeling healthier.

@cmomma17: yes, the first time especially.

the second time was easier because I was used to consuming less sugar in general

The first time I did was when I was EBF and getting recurring thrush. Sugar feeds yeast to my doctor said no more carbs/gluten and no sugar. I was off sugar (all- honey, maple syrup, etc) for three months. In the first month alone I lost 10 lbs! It was hard at first but easier knowing I kind of had to do it.
I did it again during the whole 30 a few weeks ago and it went well.

For the most part- even since giving it up two years ago, when I do eat sweetener it is pure maple syrup or honey. Occasionally coconut sugar too.

I'm considering this (at least temporarily).

Did you give up all sugar (including honey, etc) or just white? How and why? How long, and what were the results?
