They thought it was overkill to not let my 10 month old use their other grandkid's forward facing seat to drive two miles to a diner (it's illegal to forward face in my state before 2). My MIl also doesn't know how to use our car seat and so I always just have to recheck the straps if she puts her in. She thinks it's overkill but she literally doesn't know how to tighten the straps!</p> <p>This bothers me a lot but we only see them once a month or so and I have no problems putting my foot down with them. We're both super strict. He's the one who actually knows how to install the car seats correctly every time (and we still go to the police station to get them checked if we get a new car seat). I'm the one who remembers things like not to have her wear a bulky coat. I'm more uptight about chest strap being right at the armpit and the straps being tight. On the other hand, he knows way more about the mechanics of installation and leveling. I know about the chest clips being at the armpits and why. I know I'm supposed to adjust the harness straps once their should reach a certain point. I know and have read more stories and video on why we do things. DH only knows if I tell him to watch a certain video. </p> <p>DH knows about the tightening of the straps and the chest clips. He knows the minimum amount to be safe. He does what I say on the issue because I have done the research but he doesn't really care. And I have had to tighten the straps after he puts them into the seat occasionally which really bothers me (but he's better now). He's occasionally argued with me that RF isn't necessarily always safer depending on the type of accident and I'm like, look you can go watch the crash test videos and read the research.
