@Mrs. Train: interesting... So my DD was born on 8/29. Sounds like she'd be in TK and then enter kinder next year if we lived where you do? It's interesting how its different in different states..

@T-Mom: in our district they just changed the acceptance date for birthdays from December to September. S now they have to be 5 by September 1. They then opend up TK for the kids whose birthdays feel in that September to December range. It was supposed to be a separate program for these kids who weren't really ready for kindergarten yet but a little older than pre school. In reality it is just a second year of kinder for the kids who have late birthdays.

My DD was born in Feb '08 and was in TK this year. She's enrolled for Kinder this August at a local Catholic school and we're very excited! She's started reading a bit... Will work more on that this summer. I know the kids she will be joining have been reading since earlier this year in their current pre-K class. Her new school has a "year ahead" curriculum... So I'm trying to work with her now so she doesn't have too much catching up to do this fall! I think she is ready though ... Am I? No!! ;)

At our particular school now, we just lucked out in that the TK class had a total of 10 kids (1 teacher, 1 aide), while pre-K had 17 kids (with also 1 teacher, but maybe 2 aides, I think)! So I honestly chose TK over pre-K since that class seemed to have a more intimate environment.

TK kids in her class started turning 5 in late Sept... My DD turned 5 in Feb... a few turned 5 as late as April though.

She goes to school 9a-3p in TK. Pre-k has a 1pm pick-up time that is optional. The biggest difference, besides class size (at our school now), is that in TK, they concentrate more on writing, letters and numbers, and "doing work" as they call it. Pre-k teaches those things as well, but there's more "free play" time. This is just what was explained to me at our current school. Not sure what TK is like in public schools! I moved from NYC at a time when enrollment for those programs was already closed.

I'm not ready!! I'm thankful that DD can stay in her current smaller environment for another year for Kinder before going to public school for first grade. I can't believe you are gonna have 3 kindergarteners at once how crazy is that?? We don't have TK here.. What is the thinking behind it?

@lilteacherbee: Thanks, I bet its so cute to see how much they change in a year!
@Mrs. Jacks: Exactly, between dropping them off and picking them up Lilly and I can draw a picture or something. Luckily both the elementary school and the new preschool we picked are within walking distance so it won't be too much driving. But now we are looking into sports and other activities. It's a new type of busy!

@Mrs. Train: Whoa! You are going to be wandering the house in circles wondering what to do with yourself (for the 20 minutes that you are not driving kids around!)

No experience, just an observation of how fast time flies! Definitely need to blog the transition!

Is it going to be weird to only have three at home?

My son had his last day of preschool today. I can't believe in 2 months he will be in kindergarten? James has a November birthday so he will be in transitional kindergarten but he will still be going to full day school in August. I'm not sure I am ready for it. Any one else out there sending their little ones of to kindergarten soon?
