I can't believe they didn't send it for same-day processing. Have you heard anything more? </p> <p>Mom had some complicated GI surgery. Basically they removed 90% of her stomach and almost all of the chest portion of her esophagus. So she's left with a small tube-shaped stomach that is connected to her esophagus high up in her chest. They also widened the piloric sphincter (between the stomach &amp; small intestine) so that her stomach has an easier time emptying. She had a fair amount of scar tissue from earlier surgeries, so her liver &amp; stomach were stuck in the scar tissue, which complicated things a bit. She also had a hiatal hernia (hole too large in the diaphragm), so they closed that up. She has an n-g tube in her nose (to help drain from her stomach while she's not allowed to swallow), 2 chest tubes, a feeding tube (which has gotten infected, unfortunately), and a couple of IVs, plus a thoracic epidural to mute the pain from the 3 incision sites (one on her back, one on her side, and one down the middle of her chest / stomach). Crazy surgery - took almost 12 hours! </p> <p>She's doing pretty well, but is really hoping they'll pull the n-g and chest tubes today. She has a swallow test sometime today and if she passes, they'll take them out. Fingers crossed! </p> <p>Oh, and they figured out the hallucinations - they were from some anti-nausea medicine they were giving her.
