Real life: My father in law. He's so patient and so interested in everything E does and says. Out of everyone, he really gets the best out of her and she behaves impeccably for him!

Fictional: Sprout from The Hen who Dreamed She Could Fly.

My dad (I love my mom but we spent more time together while I was growing up so naturally, I saw her mistakes and flaws more). My dad will play on the floor with my kids for hours, he is patient, understanding, giving...and just a good role model all together (the type of person to help walk an old lady across the street or stop for a stranger who's car has broken down).

I really look up to my parents. I also feel like I have learned a lot just from observing other parents--what to do and what not to do!

@twodoghouse: Tami Taylor and coach Taylor were my first thought before I opened this thread!

But seriously they are! When it comes to parenting and marriage. I don't really have any real life role models when it comes to parenting.

My grandma. She was always supportive, encouraging, involved. She always wanted to do things with us kids and included us in everything. Her positivity and love was endless and unwavering, no matter how much of a brat I was being.

Fictional: Marmee from Little Women.

Real: A friend who has eight children. She is soft spoken, affectionate and kind--but she runs a tight ship. She does not raise her voice to her kids, ever, but she expects them to listen the first time she says something. Her kids are full of energy and there's a lot of love in that house, but there's also a lot of discipline. She says her chief goal as a parent is to teach her children self control, above all else. I want to be her when I grow up!

Everything is different behind closed doors....but the mom of the family I nannied for while I was pregnant with LO really seems like a person who has many qualities I'd like to embody. She's very laid back, works long hours but always appears patient and her oldest is about 119 months older than my first and her second will be about a year older than my second so since we have similar child spacing I feel like I can look to her. She really seems to be so laid back with her husband too (Kind and not resentful) which is something I'm also working on.

And I think my mother is wonderful as well.

My sister. Haha. It might be that whole big sister idolization I've had since we were kids but I swear she just seems like she has it all figured out. Full time working mom, keeps her house clean, and has a social life. She's a laid back mom in the sense that she's not a hover parent, but she also manages to discipline and raise a very rowdy and high energy toddler perfectly (at least it seems so to me).

I wish I could handle motherhood as well as her. Haha. I'm always asking her for advice.

Well obviously Tami and Coach Taylor.

In real life, I think I'm trying to take bits and pieces from a lot of people in my life - my parents, my MIL, my cousin, one of my best friends, a co-worker. I guess it takes a village to raise a mom too.

REAL-LIFE: A parenting friend who I hang out with. He makes a huge effort to unplug when he's with his kids, and just loves hanging out with the kids on the floor. I do too but there are limits for me... whereas he seems to love getting on the floor and playing for hours. I've gotten better at this over time, but it definitely doesn't come naturally!

FICTIONAL: Calvin's dad. I always think about how my poll results are falling as a result of my parenting decisions. It gives me comfort to know I'm not the only one!
