We've both gone to birthday parties for lo's daycare friends though, except maybe 1 or 2, and we both attend potlucks that the daycare organizes if we're both available. If anything, we visit friends, but we almost always do that together. If they have kids the same age as our LOs, then we leave them play. On occasion, I'll see a friend and her kids, but again...I don't see that as a play date. I see that as me getting together with a friend of mine and bringing our kiddos along. Plus, both of my kids are in day care, so I don't have much of an issue with socializing them.
