We alternate based on our work schedules. The week and a half the boys had HFM, I had already taken the Thursday and Friday of the start of it off. The rest of the following week, we alternated days all week depending on who had a busier work schedule.

If we get a call and it's a day I'm working from home, I'll go get them, but if I'm in the city, DH is only 20 minutes away, so he'll get them.

Usually me because I work 5 minutes from daycare and my schedule can be more flexible than my husband's. We alternate days if it is a situation where he has to be out for multiple days in a row depending on what we have going on at work.

In general we try to trade off or split the day. It used to get annoying though because DH left before we got up, and if DS woke up sick, I'd always have to take off at least part of the morning before he could get home. If I get a call (they always call me) I call DH and we work out who's the best person to pick him up. A lot of the time one of us has a meeting or something else important at work we can't miss.

DH can work from home. So if it's our 4 year old, DH will stay with him since E can watch TV and DH can still work. If something important is going on at work for DH, or if one of the kids is really sick, I'll stay home.

My husband doesn't work a traditional schedule, so if he's off that day, he stays with her by default. If we're both scheduled to work, then I usually stay home because my job is more flexible. There've been a few days when she was sick where I worked from home and had my dad come over to help with her so I could actually be at my computer.

Depends in who has a more busy / teacher-centric day (we are both teachers). Some days the lesson plans are easy to give to a sub, some days.... not so much, lol.

I am still nursing so it would be nice to stay home and not pump, but I have almost no paid sick time left due to maternity leave

Haven't gotten this call before, thank goodness, but when one is sick whomever has the lighter day takes it off. If we had to pick up a kid mid-day and DH had a busy day, he would pick them and take them home and I would get off early to come home if he needed to go back to work. He works 10 minutes from daycare whereas it would take me an hour.

The only time DH ever does is if it's already the afternoon and he's not working that day. Otherwise, it's 100% me. He's in his residency and basically, unless you are actually hospitalized, you do not get a sick day. He had to go to work when he had severe HFM, when he had gastro and was vomiting/diarrhea in between patients, etc. It's really crappy but we just deal.

I have the ability to work from home, so it's always me. Which has been amazing this year, since I seriously think one or both of my kids has been called out 20+ days. Not even exaggerating. This year has been ridiculous. They call when they have a slightly elevated temp and then have to be out for 24 full hours. I love the daycare but hate their policy in this situation.

Daycare always calls me but it's almost always my husband who picks him up. His work is a lot closer to daycare than mine and his job (office) allows him to get out more quickly and with more flexibility than mine (teacher).

This has never happened to us. One time they called to say DD had a low grade fever after waking up from nap, but I was already on my way to pick her up.

When we keep her home I usually stay home day one (the worst day) and then if we keep her home an addl day it depends on my work schedule and how she's feeling. I might take the 2nd day too or i'll have DH stay with her. Just depends.

Unbelievably, we've never gotten this call, so I don't know how we would handle it. I'm usually in more pressing meetings and he's closer, but I'm better about keeping my phone on me. Could go either way!

We usually alternate sick days depending on what's going on.

Daycare texts so we both get the message. DH works from home two days a week so he often does the initial pickup. Usually we split the day so we can both get a chunk of work done and almost make a full day up with a chunk after bedtime. I'm being laid off in a few months so my job has been deprioritized and now I'm the go-to sick parent. When I start my new job DH will need to take over that role until I'm established.

It depends. Even though I WAH, my DH's job is actually more flexible since he doesn't have deadlines like I do. If I'm having a slow day, I'm the default parent. But if I'm under a deadline, DH will step in. So sometimes we are both at home, but DH is the one on nursing duty.

I always get the call because DH doesn't always have access to a phone. And the two times it has happened so far (knock on wood!) he has been out of town anyway.

We've only really ever gotten that kind of call once. At the time it had to be DH due to the location of the daycare. Now that she's in a daycare close to our house, it's a lot easier for me to get her, so I imagine it would default to me unless I absolutely had to stay at work that day, in which case DH would suck it up.
