@T.H.O.U.: aw bummers. If I have a second, we'll be pretty on our own- so DD will come with us to the hospital (I would get approval first). I'm not really helping I guess, other than to say we would be in this position. I thought about hiring someone to be on call (?)

@T.H.O.U.: that's awful your first option isn't ok with being on-call. I know it's a big commitment but it's not like everyone can just schedule their labor. Even though your friends/family have their own kids to deal with I would ask one of them. They probably know how much this would mean to you and bc they have kids they probably understand how difficult it can be to coordinate after hours childcare. I know I would be happy to help a friend who needed a favor like this. And I think that's a great idea to leave a spare carseat at daycare so whoever is available can go get your LO. Good luck!

Our current plan (assuming it doesn't fall through) is to give my mom the keys to our house and one of our cars so she can use the car w/ car seat (or move the car seat to her car) to pick up Xander from daycare. Then she'll either stay at our house and bring Xander to daycare in the morning so she can go to work as normal (we live near her work) or she'll take time off work and keep Xander with her at her house. Hubs will stay with me just until the baby is born and then go home to relieve my mom and take over Xander duties.

If my mom falls through, I'm hoping a local friend will be able to take over and have the same plan.

Bump! Does anyone else have input on this?

I just found out that the family member we thought we were going to rely on (to at least get her from daycare and get her home for dinner) isn't too excited about being "on call". Apparently she's busy. So at this point, I'm off to find some other plan.

Worst case, my work, DH work, and daycare are all very close and we will just get her on the way to the hospital or bring her with us from home. We will have to keep her there until someone else could maybe come help.

I'm thinking we should leave our extra carseat at daycare so maybe someone could come get her and take her home if needed? Problem is, all of our friends and family are busy with their own kids. Its so unpredictable I don't even know what "plan" to make with anyone. So much for family being reliable.

A friend met us at the hospital and took him for the day, then DH picked him up, did bedtime routine and another friend came to stay overnight at our place.

My parents came 1.5 weeks before my scheduled section so it was all planned. Luckily, I didn't go into labor before then. Then we would have had to scramble and ask a neighbor to help out. I would recommend packing a bag (for a few days worth and don't forget to grab loveys or anything he/she needs for sleeping on your way out) for your toddler so when the time comes just grab and go.

labor was fast and he was born at 3pm, so mom watched DD during the day and DH went home in time for bedtime.

No grandparents close by so my mom came up a week before my scheduled induction. We also planned that if I went into labor before she arrived, a friend would come over and my parents would immediately jump in the car and start driving, so my friend would only have to be "on duty" with WJ for a minimum of 7-8 hours. I was concerned about leaving my mom alone with an active toddler for several days (and concerned since he wasn't used to her putting him down for naps, sleep, etc) but they both did GREAT. We even had to stay an extra day at the hospital and they still did great.

We will be taking LO to my mom before we head to the hospital, thankfully she lives on the way. I'm a bit nervous about having to get a toddler ready and out the door while in labor. Who watched your LO(s) while you went to the hospital? Did you have to take them somewhere or did someone come to you?
