#2 so you can have her for future date nights etc. I agree you can give her plenty of instruction.

Personality is so important! You want her interacting with your baby, not just "caring" for her. Pick #2 and feel free to give her a ridiculous amount of instructions...she won't mind.

#2. Date nights!
I didn't have a tremendous amount of infant experience and my kids are OK. You've got to learn somewhere.

Honestly, I would keep looking. The lack of infant experience is a deal breaker for me.

#2 because she seems as if she could be up for a long term gig with you whenever you needed a date night or sitter for something.

Nothing necessarily against #1, but 2 seems like a great fit long term

Are you breastfeeding? Did you discuss your expectations around managing milk/supply? It was really important to me that our nanny was supportive of my breastfeeding relationship, careful with my milk, etc.

Other than that, based on what you wrote I would go with option 2.

I would pick #2. Even with infant experience you will still have to do trial days and explain everything anyway so you just need someone responsible and smart who you think will listen to your instructions.

#2- A 4 month old is not a newborn, so I'm sure she can handle it! Plus she'll be around longer and that means less transition and change for your family!

I would go with #2 since you were able to see how she interacted with your LO. I would not be comfortable hiring someone who I haven't seen in person with kids.

I would go with #2 since it would be nice to be able to have someone reliable to call on for future date nights. She sounds motivated (especially with her pediatric training) and I'm sure she will learn quickly. The benefit of someone with less experience is that you can really tell them how you want your child to be cared for and they will be less likely to do it "their way".

I'm going back to work in May (for 6 weeks since I work in a school). We are hiring a nanny for the baby, who will be 4 months at the time. When I'm off for the summer, the nanny will watch him for about 10 hours a week and will sometimes have our then 3 year old daughter too. We have interviewed a few nannies and found two that meet our needs. Both have great references.
Nanny #1, college student who nannied for a 4 month old last summer, will return to school in the middle of August, was nice but very quiet/shy. She didn't meet our daughter because she wasn't home at the time
Nanny#2, college student, but goes to school near our home and could continue next year for weekends/date nights, doesn't have infant experience but has an internship on a pediatric floor of a hospital. Met our daughter, and our daughter warmed up to her quickly.

I liked #2, my husband liked #1. Would you hire someone without infant experience?
