@grizz: Well, DONA IS the original doula association and they were the first to really put a name on the profession, so they have the most experience with training new doulas!

@FarmWifeGina: I will be my friend's first birth after she finishes her DONA workshop and we are both so excited! I'm glad to know someone who had such a great experience with it. So coincidental since the workshop here is in a couple of weeks :)

@grizz: The first part was a lot of talk on the code of ethics and DONA standards of practice, how we can't give medical advice, etc. Then by the afternoon of the second day (it started at 1 pm on Friday), we got into comfort measures and more birth stuff (yay!) and that was the best part. Learned some massage and relaxation techniques, as well as some counterpressure methods. Sunday we did some more comfort measures, as well as talked over different labor scenarios, postpartum care, and breastfeeding. I learned so much and it was so great being in the company of other kindred spirits! AND I have a whole manual to read yet that's going to give me so much more information! I'm in love and I already have several possible births lined up (one for sure) for this summer!

@emg86: The workshop was amazing, amazing, AMAZING! I'd highly recommend it if you're thinking about getting into birth work. Now I'm just dying to attend some birth and use my new skills!

@emg86: Thanks! I'm pretty dang excited! Can you tell? Lol. This is just one step towards official certification (although, I won't be certifying through DONA), but it's a pretty big one and it kinda puts me on the map as someone who is serious about pursuing this passion and somebody you might want to attend your birth.

@FarmWifeGina: I'm not a doula, but just wanted to say congrats & how exciting! It's a field I've definitely become SUPER interested in since planning our home birth and working with a wonderful midwife and doula. I can't imagine the last 9 months without those two wonderful ladies!

I am so beyond excited to finally be attending a DONA birth doula workshop this weekend!!!!! Like, it's a real, legitimate step to becoming an official doula and that's, just, aaaaaaah! Seems like it's been forever in the making for me and now it's finally happening!

Did you love your workshop time?
