just had to email my bro for this because my best friend is going down there for her five year anniv in june!

he recommends (he's been there 2x in the last 1.5 years)

Culebra Island - ferry from fajardo to culebra is pretty cheap, but it fills up quickly so get there early in the am (esp in summer months), it's well worht the money and it's all day activity, best beaches/water/sand of all PR.

Hiking at El Yunque rainforset. Bit of a curvy drive up but you can hike and visit beautiful rainfalls.

There is also a well known horseback riding field for a nonbeach activity.

And as prev stated, Old Town San Juan for downtown, street fair, great food :)

Gosh it's been a while since I was there last... I'd just defer to Yelp or online guides (like the Lonely Planet forums) for specific recommendations. I had a guidebook with me at the time so don't remember any specifics. Just make sure you go see the big fort in town :)

@JoJoGirl: Great! We're staying in Old San Juan at Da House. We figured while we're babyless, we would embrace the hotel over a salsa bar concept. :). Any specific recommendations in Old San Juan?

I've been to San Juan a bunch of times but not the other places. Stay right in Old San Juan if you can (and haven't already booked accomodation). It's charming and walkable and there's tons of places to eat, live music, bars, etc. If you're out in the other districts (stretching along the water toward the airport) you can really only get around with a car and it's not quite as safe. If you're resort people I know there are a few big hotels in Condado and those neighborhoods, but Old San Juan is definitely the place to be for nightlife, shopping, siteseeing, etc. :) Have fun!!!

DH and I are planning our trip to PR in June. We're staying in Fajardo for three nights and doing El Yunque one day and sailing trip the next. Then, two nights on Vieques. I know we want to do the bioluminescent bay, but other than that we have no specific plans. Last we have two nights in San Juan.

So for those who have been or are from PR, what are your recommendations?
