I looked online for reviews of OB's that delivered at the hospital near our house. Then I researched them online to see reviews. It was tough, I feel your pain. It's so much easier to get recommendations from friends/co-workers than to have to go it alone. But if you're like us and not telling anyone you are ttc, I'd say the Internet will be your best friend. Start with the hospital you want to deliver in and go from there.

For my first go-round, I was referred to a BUSY downtown hospital clinic in the Low Risk Clinic because I worked about 10 mins away. It was great for my OB visits, but when it came time to deliver, it was horrible. My water broke as I was getting out of the car to go into the hospital to get checked out one night before my due date. It was really busy and they told me they would have a room for me in 1 hour and to walk. Well I walked around the halls and then came back. They had given my room away! They then told me to go home (yes, with my water already broken) and come back the next morning. So, after two+ hours, my hubby and mom convinced me to go home. Well we never made it home, I ended up delivering at my local 'home' hospital by a fantastic OB.

Fantastic OB is now my OB for Bebe #2.

When I first moved to TX for my job, my hubby looked into the D Magazine for Dallas' Voted Best Doctor (various categories - family practice, dentist, gastro, etc.) and tried to recall which doctor's prescription floated through his pharmacy the most. He took it as if that many people went to them, then surely they're doing something right.

In 2007, I had knee surgery at a hospital that was privately owned by the doctors. The hubby and I fell in love with the hospital and determined that's where we wanted to deliver our future kids. I wasn't a fan of the original OB, plus she wasn't a GYN, so I did a search through my insurance company's website for OB/GYN's that delivered at our preferred hospital.

I recently moved to a new town and shortly after that I found out I was pregnant. My previous gyn/ob was 2 hours away. I researched many offices online. Finally I decided to go with an all womens clinic... I just decided to give it a shot and If I didn't like it there.. I would just switch. Visiting the dr. is always a dreadful thing for me, but with this all womens clinic I felt really comfortable. Also the office was located in the hospital I was going to deliver at and close to my house!

Do you have any friends/family/coworkers you could ask? You don’t have to tell them you are TTC, just ask for an OB/GYN recommendation.

My OB is my GYN, so that’s how I found her (I originally found the practice through word of mouth). Like with any doctor, you can set up an initial consult to see how you feel about the practice and the nurses and doctors. If you “click” – awesome!, and if you don’t – try another. You could start to narrow the list by seeing which practices are covered within your insurance network as well.

There's a really active moms forum in my area, and I read posts on there, and then had a pre-conception consult with two OBs, picking the one I liked better.

I went to my OB for 9 years before thinking about getting pregnant. I liked that they were an all women practice, which was important to me because when you deliver you never know who will be on call. I know other people that go there and like them, and I've been with them for so long so I trusted them. Could you just ask for recommendations for a regular gyno?

I have been with the same OB for......5 years now? I just go for my yearly exam with him, I don't go to a family Dr for those exams. So most likely when I start to TTC or when I am pregnant, I will stick with him!

How the heck do you find an OB when you don't exactly want to shout from the rooftop that your thinking of TTC or that you're PG?

I'm new to my town, and we're putting off TTC for about 6 months. I need to schedule an annual exam, and I would really like to start going to the same OBGYN that I would want to use for my pregnancies.

I'm curious how other Bees went about choosing the doctor that would be your OB for your pregnancy and when you made that decision (before or after BFP). What factors did you consider? If you chose an OBGYN before you were pregnant but with pregnancy in mind, did you ask them anything about their philosophies, etc.? For instance, did you discuss whether they push inductions, their c-section rates, etc.? I just don't know how to go about finding out these things. The reviews online haven't really given me that type of info, and the one person I know here to ask had elective scheduled c-sections, which isn't really the direction I would want to go.
