I'm going to start working with her more this fall since I think she is ready. She knows the alphabet, can recognize most letters, can write most letters and can write her name. I have family with birthdays on Christmas Eve and the day before. Sometimes it's a little annoying for them scheduling parties, but they both like their birthdays just fine! We just do our best to, like you said, make it about their birthdays. It's not hard, either. Just make sure to get birthday wrapping paper, birthday cards, cake, and separate gifts.
