@travellingbee: we made the switch today! I was afraid of the whole nap thing too. DD sleeps great in the infant car seat and today she slept even better in the convertible! 1.5 hours. She usually does 45 minutes. I'm sure it was just luck but at least I know she's comfy in it.

@Greentea: which snugride do you have? We have the lightest one (not 30 or 35) and there is a pull thing between her legs in front of the buckle to loosen and tighten. But I did read there is one graco that is super annoying like you describe.

We are still using the infant seat, but even with my peanut of a four month old it's getting heavy.

We're planning on switching pretty soon, probably within the next few months. LO is starting to look kind of uncomfortable in his infant seat.

@lovehoneybee: This is exactly what C does... screams bloody murder when I try to snap him in. Also, he's not the biggest baby around, but it's already SO heavy with him in there. It takes a lot for me to lug him up and down the stairs every day!

I have a graco snugride and lo hates it. I imagine the convertible will have more padding. We hate it too. We have to loosen and tighten the straps from the back each and every time to get her in and out. Are they all like that?

@travellingbee: there are usually height limits as well as weight limits for infant seats...we had to switch because LO was super long!

We switched because LO was getting too tall for his infant seat. Honestly, I don't think it has made a difference to him. He seemed fine in his infant seat, and he is fine in this one. Of course, he's pretty chill about everything normally.

@travellingbee: TBH, we switched because we happened to get flying that weekend and packed our infant bucket/base and installed the convertible for the drive to the airport. It wasn't until we used it that we saw it seemed much more comfy for the baby.

The only drawback is that her head flops from side to side when she falls asleep, like our heads do in the car, since she's more upright than reclined.

Well for us it gave E more space. He's a big baby, and very long, and was a little bit folded into the infant seat by like 5 or 6 months. The convertible gives him lots of room to spread his legs out. He can still nap in the car...well, as well as he sleeps anywhere that's not his crib. With one exception he stopped taking the long car naps before we moved him to the bigger seat.

Also, for me, the big benefit of the infant seat was that I could take it out and carry him in, but by the time we decided to switch (at 6 months) he was really too heavy for me to do that easily (and there's no way I could have done it without waking him up). And he didn't like the bucket seat by the end. He'd scream bloody murder and thrash whenever we tried to put him in. He'd calm down quickly but it was a struggle every time towards the end.

My son still needed to be somewhat reclined in his convertible, but it was situated up higher so he could see out of the window.

I think the infant buckets are touted as being a must have item, but as the baby gets bigger, the seat becomes kind of cumbersome, which is why people move to the convertible, which could be used from birth.

@travellingbee: the convertible seat allows the baby to sit more upright, so they are sitting up rather than reclining. They can see more of whats going on as you drive and some of them have more padding.

I've heard people say that their baby was more comfortable in the convertible seat but I'm wondering why. What is more comfortable? What are the advantages of switching?
