I second the once upon a child store (if you have one near you). They have really nice shoes for very cheap.

@looch: I'm the same way too. Problem is, I believe in buying well-made shoes for comfort and want to do the same for my LO, but I can't see spending $40-70 per shoe when she'll outgrow them so quickly. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for good deals.

@Red: I am too chicken to try laundering the non-sneaker leather shoes either.

I would consider buying almost any item of clothing used, except shoes and underwear/diapers. I wouldn't do it for myself so I also wouldn't do it for my child. To each his own.

So far we've been lucky with hand me downs. And with shoes, kids grow so fast they barely wear them so they're in such good shape!

I refuse to pay more than $10 for toddler shoes.

Find your local children's resale shop! Once Upon a Child is a national chain. I also check out the Salvation Army and Goodwill.

I routinely get barely worn Stride Rite shoes for $2-$8.

@red - that's true... i do buy a ton of used things, but i always buy new shoes. after charlie's feet started growing like crazy, i shopped at target and payless to save money!

@Andrea, you have a point. I'm just weary that non-sneaker style shoes (w/ softer leather) will come out ugly but I can try laundering the ones she's gonna outgrow to see how they come out. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Red - I don't like buying used shoes either. But if you did, you can always throw them in the washing machine. I have washed my own sneakers on cold/gentle cycle and air dried so I assume you can do the same for baby sneakers?

@Looch, I've heard good reviews about StrideRite. Gonna check 'em out. tx.

@Andrea, I agree that barefoot is best and I only put them on when we're outside to protect her feet. I don't want to go too cheap as well cause poor quality shoes sometimes hurt.

@MrsBells & MrsBee, I LOVE socks with grip, especially the ones that are patterned to look like shoes. We have some Jazzy Toes sock shoes and they look adorable with outfits.

Generally, I'm okay with buying pre-owned items but for some reason, pre-owned shoes give me pause. Maybe it's because I can't fully sanitize them.

We buy our daughters shoes from places like walmart, target, payless or even thrift stores. I refuse to spend a bunch of money on shoes that she will only be able to wear for a few months tops.

oh man you know i spent a fortune on shoes. i would try to buy them used because you can find gently used shoes in great condition since everyone's kids outgrow shoes quickly.

until charlie started walking, we had him in these sock-shoes from target that were cheap. charlie was a size 4 when he started walking and he wore them for quite some time. enough time that it was worth it for the three pairs of sneakers he had. so i bought several summer shoes, and he promptly outgrew them in a month. and for the 3 months after that, his feet grew a size every month. so i definitely learned my lesson not to buy more than one pair of shoes in the 16-22 month stage!

i definitely wouldn't spend money on expensive shoes until they're walking. but i know they're hard to resist! what's cuter than baby shoes?!

I think the socks with the grip soles are the best. Babies look cute in shoes but dont really need them until they start to walk.

I bought one pair of shoes for my LO because they were on sale for 13 bucks and I couldn't resist getting her fur boots. :)
She's only 7 months old though and I've never taken her out with shoes on. I'm afraid her fur boots'll be too small before she gets to wear them..

Another option is some socks with grip. Our floors are tile, and while I let DS go barefoot for the summer, it is too cold for him to go barefoot...we have a few area rugs, but the majority of our living space floors are just too cold to go with no socks or shoes.

I do agree though, to stay away from heavy/bulky shoes. A babies foot has a natural bend to it, and it shouldn't be forced straight in rigid soled shoes.

I'm going to try to hold off on buying shoes until my LO starts walking. I plan on looking on ebay for gently used shoes, but even then they're still going to be pricey at the rate that feet grow. :(

Babies don't generally need shoes until they are really walking so you can save and not buy them until that point. It is better for them to cruise in barefeet. So I waited until my LO was walking at 13 months to put her in shoes. I like Stride Rites and there are outlets. They only need maybe 2 pairs at a time if you buy shoes in colors that can match a lot of their clothes. I also don't want to go too cheap if it sacrifices on quality. Having good support is important for their feet, posture, and alignment!

I feel your pain! I started looking around for shoes about a month ago when the soft soled Robeez just caused him to slip around while standing.

I found some Robeez Mini-Shoes, they have a sole with grip, so that's what we are using for now. I bought two pairs from StrideRite.com, one pair in size 4, one in size 5. I got the same pair, they aren't the most adorable things on the planet, but for the amount of time he wears them, they were worth the $20 sale price.

I've seen See Kai Run on Zulilly, that site often has deals on kids shoes.

About 2 months ago, my LO started pulling up and cruising so I looked into buying shoes for her and was absolutely flabbergasted by how expensive infant/toddler shoes are!! I ended buying a pair of See Kai Run and Pediped shoes for her but even on sale, they were close to $30 each.

Of course, she's close to outgrowing both pairs now so I'm on the hunt again. Any suggestions for buying good shoes on the cheap? or any moderately priced brands that you like?
