Zero. Too expensive! We have been gifted several great blankets and quilts, but you never use these in the crib anyway! So we bought several fitted crib sheets and mattress pads on sale at Target. We also made a crib skirt with instructions from Young House Love.

Wal-mart here has some really cute ones for 50-60$ and we got ours at BRU for 75$. They aren't always expensive, though I do agree a few sheets are all you really need.

@Mrsbells: charlie would get his arms/legs stuck in between the slats of his crib. it's not as cushy as a bumper to protect against bumps, but it is much safer!

alternatively you can use a bumper for the first 4 months or so until they start moving. until that age, they pretty much can't move.

@Mrsbells: I registered for the breathable bumper, and it's basically just a mesh bumper that goes inside the crib. It wouldn't offer much help with her bumping her head, but would keep her from getting body parts stuck between the slats while still allowing her to breath if she happened to put her face up against it.

Thanks everyone I think I will buy separate sheets..

@Mrs. Bee: What does the breathable bumper do? Does it protect the baby from bumping her head or just from getting her limbs stuck in between the slats?

We opted to just go to etsy and have sheets and a crib skirt made. I agree w/ pp's who said that a lot of it is extra, we don't plan on using bumpers or quilts anyhow. I'm also not a big fan of the matchy matchy themes that you get in crib sets.

I also never bought a set. I feel like all you need are 2 sets of fitted sheets and a breathable bumper. Maybe the waterproof pad but we haven't had a great need for it.

i got 2 sets from the argington website on sale (was around $185, bought for like $99).

http://www.argington.com/sale/bedding-en/sets-en.html...

really cute. i bought the 2 (butterfly and dinosaur) because i thought i was going with the argington. but i think i'm going with another crib and hope that it fits just fine lol. we haven't bought the crib yet. amazon and buybuybaby were much more expensive (for the same package) so just bought it off the actual site.

good luck! also, my SIL told me to get nojo fleece sheet saver, so hopefully, you won't have to wash your sheets as much. (it's only $8!)

We did the same as @artbee - just bought individual crib sheets instead of a bedding set. We bought 4, but we really only need 2. We also bought a crib skirt, which isn't necessary, but I like it because I store stuff under the crib.

all you really need is 2 waterproof mattress pads (or mattress will get stained when baby throws up) and 2 fitted sheets. breathable bumpers and dust ruffles are optional.

charlie is two and we've never needed more than our 2 waterproof mattress pads, 2 fitted sheets, and breathable bumper.

olive has one sheet, 1 waterproof mattress pad, and 1 dust ruffle.

I got ours on amazon because it was the cheapest place I could find it. I We bought it on our own and didn't register for it. In addition, I have 2 additional crib sheets. We do have the bumper in the crib, LO loves looking at the forest animals on it.

Zero. I bought separates : sheets, crib skirt, and breathable bumpers. You can't use half the stuff in the sets anyway because you're not supposed to put anything but the baby in the crib, so I didn't want to waste money.

They are too expensive in my opinion. I registered for one, but if I don't get it at the baby shower, I probably won't go and spend my own money on it. I did register for around 5 sets of fitted sheets because in my opinion, that's the only part of the bedding sets that you actually need. Bumpers are a no-no, dust ruffles aren't really important, and theres no need for the comforter. But, they're so stinkin cute so it's hard to fight the urge.

As you can tell from my most recent trend of posts I'm shopping for a lot of baby gear now since this is my last week in my 2nd trimester.. April is getting closer by the minute and I want to get as much stuff off my list as possible.
I was looking online and crib bedsets are EXPENSIVE! some are even more expensive than the crib itself! why is this? And how many sets did you buy?
