My lo isn't at an age where I trust her with anyone but my parents or inlaws. For a few hours id be ok with other friends or family, but she has such stranger anxiety and screams when people pick her up that id just worry shed be upset the whole time.

The only place I know like this is ikea.

The only place I can think of is the gym. DD has always had stranger anxiety so I have never used it anyway.

As for going to watch a movie or something else like that and leaving her with a stranger, I think I would be worried unless she was a lot older. For now, I would rather leave her at home with a babysitter that we know.

There's a theatre near us that offers babysitting services at specific hours. I don't think they show new releases though. We haven't tried it because we've always had a regular sitter. There are a bunch of restaurants (mostly breweries though) that have a children's play area to keep the kids entertained. I just worry about the cleanliness of them and make sure I clean LO's hands thoroughly after he plays. Our gym offers babysitting to, which has been so helpful to us! They get to run around in a big space and we get to workout.

There's a musical on Broadway (or off-Broadway, I can't remember) in NYC right now that offers babysitting. The musical is about parenting too, I think. I personally have a long list of other musicals I'd rather see than one on parenting, but I did think for a second about going just for the childcare factor. But then I realized my kids don't do so well with caregivers they (and I) have JUST met, you know? Plus, I don't think they care for infants... just older toddlers and kids. But yeah... there should definitely be more family-friendly places around!

There's a restaurant like that near us. It's fairly expensive, but it's also located in a very affluent community. I wish I could justify the price tag of eating there, but I just can't. Still, I'm sure they're doing quite well b/c it's a great business plan, and they're catering to the (many) people who can afford it around here.

I would love a movie theatre w/ a playspace. They do have matinee movies near us where you can bring your baby, and it's child and breastfeeding friendly. It seems like if gyms and Ikea can have drop in baby sitting and play areas, then movie theatres and restaurants could easily do this too!

Sounds like your next business venture...

I don't know of any places like that, but parents would probably jump at the chance to use them!

I would love to catch a movie, while my kids are playing in an attached playspace. Or grab a nice meal, while my kids are playing in a room in the back. Or grab a musical while my kids are... anyway you get the idea.

Why aren't there more combo playspace/entertainment places? Have people opened them, and there just aren't enough parents interested? Because I would sure love to get out of the house more!
