Wow I am shocked by how many people say others comment on their kid still being RF!! Our dd is only 8 months but we plan to RF as long as possible! If anyone was questioning it I would probably bite their head off over this more than anything else because umm safety people!! I have been in a few bad car accidents, one where I nearly died, so the whole thing just freaks me out.

At 22 months when DD2 was born and we had to fit the infant seat in the car as well. DH and I are both very tall, and the driver seat just has to have more leg room than either of the RF seats would allow.

We turned our three boys at one because at the time that was what was recommended so we just went with the reccomendations. Lily was just about 2 and she was so fussy about being like her brothers so before we went on a long driving trip we flipped her so she wouldn't scream for 38 hours of driving.

@BananaPancakes: I was thinking the same thing! Nobody has asked us about it. I think they just assume that so many other things are different than when we were kids they trust us to do what we want to do? It would drive me crazy if my family was constantly pestering me about my choices! Ugh!

We turned him on his 2nd birthday. He would have been happy to RF longer, but it was getting increasingly difficult to get him in the seat by myself since he's a heavy kid and I drive a large SUV.

I am surprised at how many people had others even comment on their car seat position! No one even mentioned anything to us, though I don't personally know anyone who waited as long as we did. I would have told them to suck it.

@Vegmama: Yes we have LATCH and it's not possible to use it in the center. Plus there is kind of a separation between the two seats (kind of a bump in the center to separate the seats) so I don't think I could use the seat belt method as the base would be unstable. On the plus side, I didn't bonk his head this morning so we will see how it goes over the next few weeks!

@swurlygurl: Thanks! I'm worried about this because Hubs has a smaller car than me and currently has Xander's car seat in the middle position, but with baby #2, he'll have to move his car seat over and I'm not sure it will fit rear facing anymore, but I want to keep him rear facing in my car for as long as possible since he rides with me the most. I just wasn't sure how going back and forth would go!

We moved around 22 months, we were going on a road trip so we wanted 1) selfishly the ease of the forward facing so we could access the backseat of the SUV easier & 2) she was messing with the top chest buckle and we could see her/make her stop easier. We tried a shirt backwards but then she complained/cried/tantrum she was too hot because of the shirt, I wasn't about to listen to that for 4 hours.

We just turned LO's seat at 22 months. DH really wanted to turn her. She's fine on the height and weight requirements. She can be a pill in the car, so I was fine with it. We're taking our first 3 hour drive FF today and I think it's going to be fun. She talks so much more than RF; it's really fun to listen to her.

DS will be 2 in a month but I don't plan on FF him until at least after the winter. He's generally fine but it's getting harder to put in him RF and I'm pregnant so that will get tougher. Also, I have to admit that I"m getting tired of explaining why he's still RF.

L will probably RF in my car until she outgrows the weight or height limit (she's 21 months). She's FFing in DH's car though, because it's a 2-door and he can't bend to put her in the car seat when it's RFing.

DS was 2.5 and I asked DH to move his seat to the other side so DD's infant seat could be put in behind the passenger seat and when doing it he moved him FF. I wasn't thrilled but I also wasn't going to fight about it.

DD was almost 2 - I switched her because we were going on a long trip and I wanted her to watch TV so she wouldn't fuss -

We're still rear-facing (at 23 1/2 months) and had planned on doing it for a while longer since LO is on the small side. The comments are coming, however. My MIL just had a seat installed in her car for LO and claims that the police officer who did it *said* LO is too old to rf (ha!) and we should switch it soon. Thanks, but think we're gojng to wait a bit, Mr. Police Officer and MIL.

LO is super tiny (he's almost 23 months and still has to use the infant insert at <20 pounds) so we'll be rear-facing for awhile. I actually think it's easy to load him this way and will keep him this way as long as I can. He has a mirror, so it doesn't seem to bother him.

Still RF at 3 (40 months? Funny to think of it that way). Am thinking of turning him very soon because he has hit the LATCH weight limit (kid + seat) so I need to reinstall with the belt. I would rather not do that twice, since the radian is a beast.

Our car seat (safety first air) wasn't stable RF in our SUV (it was fine in our old car). I read to use a rolled towel underneath but it compressed so much and was still wobbly. She's was nearly 18 months but if I wish we just would have bought a different seat instead of switching to FF. She's 28 months now so it's not a big deal...but I'll definitely buy a different seat for LO #3 (the Britax marathon worked fine RF in our car).

Oh and with my first, the ped suggested we switch him to FF at 12 months! But that was in 2010 before the AAP changed the RF age.

When we have to install the infant seat for the new baby. His seat wont easily fit rear facing behind the driver seat in my car without cramming my pregnant self into the stearing wheel...which isnt happening. Our infant seat is also too big to be behind the driver seat. LO will be almost 2.
