We got gender neutral bedding, car seat, stroller, etc. (all gear) because we knew we wanted more children. The clothes, though, were another story. Now that our daughter is two and we are thinking about having another, I kind-of want new crib bedding if we have a boy just becuase I associate her bedding with baby girls now. (also, it's just fun to decorate a nursery) Plus, we need a new stroller (worn out) and another car seat (duh), so I guess buying gender neutral didn't matter as much as I thought it would.

All our big ticket items are gender-neutral, both "just in case" and because I am not such a pink fan, so when pink is the only girly option, I would seldom choose it anyway. Her clothes are mostly girls' clothes, because many outfits were gifts, and because, well, they're really cute! She also has boy cousins who are generous with the hand-me-downs, so if we need them, I'm sure we'll have plenty of boy-things for the future, too.

Most of the stuff that we have which is definitely girly was given to us as gifts. Everything we registered for I picked with future reuse down the line. Now, when I go to the store, I do buy her some girly things but that's because her hair is still really short and so she needs a pop of pink or a hairband every so often!

I should add that my son's clothes are for the most part very boyish - minus sleepwear, I tend to go more gender neutral for that. I think I need to buy him a pink polo shirt for summer....and then...you know....if I have a girl she could wear it too : )

Because I love love love pink! All of the big stuff is gender neutral..... thanks to a little boy I saw sitting in a hot pink stroller with his older sister right there. After that I realized not everything was allowed to be pink for us. So just things like sheets, diaper pad covers (one is green, two pink), etc. I do buy pj's that are gender neutral, and shoes. I guess I do a little of each.

We didn't buy gender neutral stuff because we plan on being one and done. We didn't go over the top girly though (my LO had some blue striped boys jammies, lots of green, red, blue and black in her wardrobe) because I dont like the over the top pink princess stuff that seems to dominate girls items.

I also do gender neutral for everything but most of her clothes. Sometimes I get boy ones over the pink. Our current sleepsack is blue with a rocket on it, and dd rocks it.

I didn't go totally gender neutral because I just didn't like the gender neutral options. We're having a boy so if our next LO is a girl, I'll try to accessorize our current gear to be more girly (it's mostly black and grey (stroller, carseat) and Pooh bear (nursery, pack n play, etc.) I think the Pooh stuff could be converted to be more girly if I added some pink blankets or a pink rug in the nursery.

ETA: I was number 2 and I had a big brother.. And honestly, I preferred his batman tshirts to my Cinderella ones, so there's that too lol

The gear I picked for dd was gender neutral only by chance. It was the Lion King series at Babies R Us, cause I love the Lion King. We were totally expecting to be done after having dd, so really it didn't matter to us either way.

Now, I'm glad we chose the gender neutral gear, even though all her clothes are totally girly. I'll be a little sad if I end up not being able to use all her wonderful clothes I stashed up, but at least the big ticket items are good for a boy or a girl, if we plan on trying again.

That all said, I did have DS's graco stroller still from when he was a baby, and it is totally blue and boyish, but I totally planned on using it with DD.

@TurtleDoves: I did buy a gender neutral Miracle Blanket! The thing is so pricey! And I think if we had a boy it would be easier to buy gender neutral stuff because I don't like a lot of the little boy stuff like trains and and bears, etc. I'd probably do a lot of neutral colors and solids, stripes, and graphics!

i echo @shopaholic's sentiments. we bought all the big ticket items gender neutral (carseat, strollers, highchair, etc), but i didn't want to buy gender neutral "just in case"... part of me really thought i had a very good chance of having another girl too, so we do own quite a bit of more girly swaddles, blankets, crib bedding. i also knew i wouldn't mind putting my son in girlier colors if i had to... in fact, right now he's all warm and cozy swaddled up in his older sister's PINK woombie on his purple cribsheet! he'll never remember ;)... poor guy, i haven't bought a single thing for him besides some trumpette socks.

We bought mostly boy oriented stuff because even if we have a future girl, I'm really not into the girly colors as it is. I have no problems putting a baby girl in C's old clothes or bright green stroller, I'd probably toss a headband on her when going out and call it good.

In the beginning, before the anatomy scan, I bought only gender neutral clothes. Mainly because we didn't know the gender, but also because I wanted to re-use clothes for #2. But when we found out we were having a girl, I was pretty relieved because the gender neutral section was always so limited and it was so much more fun (for me) to buy gender specific clothing.

Now that DD is here, we no longer know if we want another. But even if we decide to give her a sibling, I think I'd want to buy new clothes (even if it's another girl) since a lot of her clothes are showing wear (especially now that she's eating solids).

I find baby SALE clothes shopping so much fun and I'm certain that if I'm ever pregnant again, I'd welcome the distraction.

We plan on being one and done so we weren't really worried with gender neutral. We just bought what we liked. However, if I think about all the big ticket items we registered for, most just happen to be gender neutral. So, I guess it's a win if we decide to try for #2 eventually.

We tried to go gender neutral, but my family ended up buying us pink versions of all the neutral gear that we registered for! My house looks like a pink explosion! I will most likely buy new things for a second child if its a boy just due to the fact that I think I'll need a break from all this frilly girly stuff :)

@winniebee: yes! same. The outfits were obviously gender specific, but like The Miracle Blanket and even a&a swaddles ( we have 3 packs, 2 are gender neutral). I don't want to buy that stuff again! And the way I look at it is: if someone needs to borrow it or if I want to sell it later, it'll be practical to a wider audience.

I think people might buy gender specific items because
their kids are going to be so very spaced that they'd need to re-buy stuff anyway, or they are done having kids.

@Cherrybee: I do think it is easier to buy gender neutral when you don't have a girl.

Pretty much the same answer as @shopaholic: we do have some gender neutral clothes that other people bought us but that's because we didn't tell anyone we were having a girl. To be honest though we didn't really use that stuff because I prefer A in girly colours. We would use the gender neutral clothes for any future boys though.

I think your original question is why didn't you buy gender neutral? Though we hope to have #2 we can't assume it will happen. And DH told me just get what I like since it's 50/50 we'd have the same gender for #2!

Clothes, blankets, sleep sacks, etc. are almost all very girly and I don't care if we need to buy boys ones later. Car seat is very girly too and if we have a boy, IDK, maybe a different cover or a whole new one depending on how long in between kids. I'm really girly though and LO is DH's princess, so it's only fitting that she's CLEARLY a girl!

Big items (gear) like crib, strollers, bouncer, swing, playmat, travel crib, high chair are gender neutral!

We got an all black stroller with the hopes to use it again. Our pack n play is feminine, but black and white. Plus, that was bought off craigslist. Our infant carrier is purple and gray, but I would totally use it again for a boy were we to have one. But, her room is girly and so are her clothes. We didn't spend too much on them so I am not too concerned.

Most was unintentionally gender neutral. For one, I didn't see too much gear that was strictly "boy" or "girl". And I don't love baby pink or blue. I would've done yellow, silver, orange, plum, red, teal, etc., regardless of boy or girl. Although there would be a lot more Hello Kitty had we had a girl, haha
