@sarac: I do prefer to sleep alone but don't mind co-sleeping since we all get sleep that way.

Same thing with E...

I think it's comfort and in his case I think it helps him to sleep at an incline (on my arm). It seems to help his gas.

I think he mostly loved being able to smell me, turn his head and nurse. We hit a point recently where he refuses to sleep in our bed anymore...he'll nurse there in the AM but will squirm and fuss when he's done until I put him back into his crib. He's a very active sleeper, though....I think he likes being able to spread out and roll over, and our full bed is really not ideal for co-sleeping with a baby like that.

Just warm and comforting. Do you prefer to sleep alone? I doubt that most people do, in general. We didn't evolve to.

We don't do it anymore but when I let her sleep with me sometimes when she was waking up a million times a night, I think she just liked being near me. She liked being able to wake up and touch me or smell me to know I was there if she needed me.

My lo doesn't co-sleep with us but she sure does sleep well if I pull her into bed with me when I'm still up. I think it's warmth plus the security of Mom being right there (and naturally food being right there). I always feel like her crib is so much cooler than our bed.

My LO loves to snuggle up next to me and she also likes to be close to the boob. She sleeps better with us and I sleep better with her in bed with us.

i think a mix of things! she is such a snuggler - if I lay her on her back, she'll kick her legs up in the air and roll toward one of us and hug our arm. if she can't reach, she'll at least rest her hand on an arm (we have a king, so we're all pretty spaced out). she loves to be touching someone!

@BabyBoecksMom: lol... sleep is for the weak

E doesn't really like cosleeping in our bed, he rolls around to play and gets upset when we don't want to. He definitely doesn't associate our bed as a place to sleep.

DD has never liked to. She thinks sleep is for the weak, and being in that big, comfy bed is a weapon we use to try to get her to sleep.

@mrsaudi: She started sleeping in her crib just recently (maybe a month ago). She's 6 months now. When she was younger, I would lay her next to me and she would fall asleep and stay asleep. Now, if we lay her in our bed, she'll just squirm and fuss.

Who wouldn't love cuddling with mama in a cushy bed?

I do believe body heat is a big part of it too. I will put a warm rice bag in LO's spot in her crib to warm it if we are having a hard time putting her down. Works like a charm.

Security. It must be really scary to a baby, to be alone in a big space. Being near mama is comforting. Even when I put DD a few inches away from me in bed, she will scoot herself over until she's pressed up against me.

And the proximity of food probably doesn't hurt either, haha!

For my son, it was definitely body warmth. He used to love snuggling up against me and would sleep so peacefully. My DD loved co-bedding because she liked the way the mattress felt (it was a lot softer than the firm mattress on the crib). We stopped co-bedding with her because she started sleeping better in her crib.

My LO will only sleep 1-2 hours in his crib before waking up. If I put him in bed with me he will sleep 6+ hours.

I think he likes sleeping with me bc our bed is so much comfier, or maybe bc he smells me near?

What do you think it is?
