I also LOVED it when our LO started walking. Life got way more fun as a parent and he seemed like he was having so much more fun exploring too. Another plus was that he wasn't completely ruining all of his pants and sleepers anymore by burning holes in the knees!

I think we're also fortunate because he doesn't really get into much trouble. We've barely babyproofed our house (no gates or cabinet locks...just some socket covers), he isn't much of a climber and if he moves stuff all over the house, he understands when we ask him to put it back.

I didn't think it was that bad at all. I guess the biggest downside is that she could carry things around when she walked, so the toys really do end up *everywhere*. I didn't really feel that she got into more stuff, and actually it was way better to have her walking around in the middle of the floor rather than constantly pulling up on tables and then rearranging and destroying everything that was on those tables.

Its good and its bad! Being pregnant it is great to just set her down and let her follow me instead of carrying her. However, the house has become considerably more of a wreck. She can reach some light switches and tops of cupboards and does everything SO quickly. It is just a bit more work and a bit more chasing. Especially when you are visiting non baby proof places.

I LOVED the walking stage. They're not crawling around dirty floors. And you can have them (girls) wear dresses! :) The hardest part is the first few months when they're super wobbly. They fall a lot so they might get a few bumps here and there if you're not watching them 24/7. But that's how they learn! I think it's important for babies to learn how to counterbalance.

I was excited for Chloe to walk! I love watching her grow up. And, her walking was easier for us because she could follow us to rooms and we didn't have to carry her everywhere.

Like someone else mentioned, now they can walk AND hold stuff at the same time! Even at 2 it creates some messes but I let it roll of my back. There's nothing we can't clean up!

Maybe I've blocked all the bad stuff but I really don't recall being anxious that I had a walker.

@mrsjyw: yes! I HATE those 3 words! I've been hearing it since before K was born and it never grows on me.

@mrskc: IDK why people really want to scare parents about how bad things could be! I think a lot of babies seem better after they can walk, move, and talk, Hopefully, it will be delightful when he starts to walk!

Why? Because they think because they're 'veteran' parents they've earned a badge that allows them to warn you about how awful things could get. :P I hate these conversations. EVERY child is different. Jake isn't so bad most of the time, but he was a crazy Crawler too so maybe we got used to it earlier. ;-)

I actually thought it was so much easier. It was like we had a new baby! He could suddenly go where he wanted and not have to wait for us to carry him somewhere. DS has never really been one to break into the cabinets or unroll the toilet paper though.

@mrs. wagon: seriously. hate that phrase!

LO is cruising but no interest in walking - none! if you hold your hands out to her, she hides her face playing shy. won't touch her walker toy, either. I can't wait til she can walk because then she will hopefully not be crawling around on the dirty floor anymore!

I second the carrying things around part, but that's been the only real downside (and I was constantly having to pick up after him anyway, so it wasn't a real change).

I LOVED it when he started walking. When he's in a pissy mood I can take him outside and let him run around. He has more fun at the playground (we have one of those big wooden fort playgrounds with lots of pathways and such). DH can keep him occupied at the store by letting him walk down the frozen food or toy aisles. His favorite game at home is walking into a room and closing the door.

He has so much more independence now, and it's great.

Now climbing onto the bed, that was a different story, but since he figured out how to climb back down that's fine too..

@mrskc: its definitely different once they walk. Even though your LO is fast at crawling now they are limited to things they can reach when they crawl. Once they are upright and can walk they can reach a lot more and cause a lot more havoc

"just wait..." is probably my most hated phrase ;)

as a parent, it becomes much easier and MORE FUN once they're walking!!! all of a sudden everything is 1000% more fun... playground, children's museum, a store... everything!!! oh and not to mention they're not crawling all over the dirty floor!!!

The only thing is that they are MUCH faster once they start walking so they can really disappear on you!

@Freckles: I keep thinking it's going to be easier! I can't wait for him to become a walking pro. I feel like it will make going out places easier since he can walk around and we don't have to fight holding him since we don't want him crawling around on nasty floors. I think we'll be able to do more fun outings with out him being stuck in the stroller. I'm excited!

@swurlygurl: yikes. we are actually headed to a lake next week for 3 nights. This is one thing I'm a bit worried about. There are stairs in the house and a dock. We'll just have to be extra careful.

@T.H.O.U.: lol, yeah maybe he'll be happy to be able to follow me around quicker. Right now he'll following and I'm too fast for him and he gets so upset!

@HLK208: yikes. climbing makes me nervous. He's already tried to climb off the back of the couch.

I actually couldn't wait for her to start walking. Well maybe that's not the right term, more I was looking forward to it. DD was such a clingy baby, I really wanted to see her grow more independent. Sure it's more work chasing after her when we're out, but she's learning to wait (kind of). Hehe.

But now that I see babies that are just starting to walk, I admit that I look back at that stage and sigh a little. It's such a sweet, sweet stage!
