I only recently got t to like brushing teeth. Gets brush in bathtub and gets yummy fluoride free toothpaste on it. He has always liked baths fortunately. Hair brushing face wiping and nail clipping and diaper changes? Forget it!

Update!

I don't know what changed but ever since I wrote this, she has enjoyed playing in the bath. We put VERY little water in it and she plays with the toys. She also doesn't act like we're chopping her head off when we rinse her hair. We make "shwoosh" noises and talk to her while we're doing it to let her know what we're doing. :)

Also, I have started trying different things with tooth brushing. I open MY mouth super wide and go "aaaaahhh!" She gets a kick out of it and even let me brush her molars last night! Personal victory!! :)

@babyjmama: hahaha. Ok. My baby. :)

J started getting too rowdy in the bath (opposite problem ) BUT instead of baths we just plop him in the shower with us and he does awesome! Maybe try that? Just a thought...I'm there w/you on the teeth though.

Oh, and lets not use the term 'toddler' k? They're babies. They will ALWAYS be babies.

It's a phase. For the brushing hair thing, can you give her a second hairbrush to hold or have her hold it and you direct her hand so she is brushing her own hair or if you can stand it allow her to brush your hair when you are done with hers?

@Weagle: My LO is only 10 months, but I find that I sing about *everything!* Totally ridiculous, but she loves it! And, I have to confess that I am secretly relieved to know that I do have a silly side. :P

LO is pretty good about allowing us to take care of her personal hygiene, but brushing teeth can be a bit of a challenge. She liked it when she can watch in the mirror and make faces at herself. And I make up songs about brushing teeth while we do it.

We endured a lot of screaming before brushing teeth. I would ask him to 'show me your big [insert name of the animal du jour here] teeth!' and he eventually started to cooperate.

It is a phase, at least it was with my son. My solution was to do baths a few times a week, not nightly, which worked in the winter. In between I wipe down with a wet washcloth when putting on pjs.

For teeth, I realized he couldn't see himself in the bathroom moirror, so we got a higher steps tool.

Oh no!

When my mom was here, she taught me a little trick for teeth brushing. (Yours may be a little young to get this though). She told D that if she brushed her teeth they would be shiny and bright. So bright just like the sun and we would have to put on our sunglasses. Sure enough she kinda opened her mouth and then my mom ran and put on her "sunnies" . D thought it was so funny (especially after lots of funny faces and squeeling from my mom) that she opened wide up and let me scrub those teeth until they are shiny.
Now every night I remind her we have to get them shiny. She thinks its hilarious when I squint my eyes and pretend that the shine from her teeth are burning my eyes. She opens right up and lets me brush.

Baths? Hates them
Brushing teeth? Refuses
Brushing hair? Tries to steal the hairbrush

This kid used to LOVE baths and brushing her teeth and dealt with me brushing her hair. I don't get it. Every night, she screams through her bath, won't sit down, screams when we rinse her hair, wiggles away when she sees the tub. I have even tried getting into the tub and "playing" in it and letting her see how much FUN I'm having. Nope, hates it. More screaming.

When she sees the toothbrush? More screaming, fighting.

My child will not be the smelly kid in class, come Hell or high water!!!

So, how do you deal with this? Another phase to get through? I don't get the bath part, kids are supposed to love baths, right?
