@Thenetexan: that's how he was before this whole fiasco began this week. He loves being put down drowsy. Now he's just angry all the time!

@BabyTsMom: ugh!! I'm going back to work in 2 weeks and wondering if he will be okay while I'm gone. I'm sure he'll be a mess when I pick him up each night. I also worry because we use a sahm for my daughter (2.5) and he will go there as well plus she has two kids of her own. Hoping it goes okay.

@yellowbird: Like @Peasinapod: @BabyTsMom: I spent a lot of time holding LO for naps when she was an infant. She would do the first half in her Rock & Play or crib, and the second half in my arms. Sometimes we'd make the transition back, sometimes she'd wake up and cry so I would just hold her.

My second did something similar and I could no longer get him to sleep in my arms. It turned out he just wanted to be put in the crib, no heroic bouncing needed. I would put him down and he would roll over and go to sleep. He was a few weeks older than your LO when we started having that issue. I held my first for naps until he was 7 months old, so this was a new and very welcome "demand"!

My LO did the same thing, at 8 weeks. Before that, it was as easy as putting him down and he'd sleep anywhere, wherever. Naps were hell from 8 weeks to about 18-19 weeks. During that time he would not sleep anywhere except when being held. I loved the cuddles but didn't love being "trapped" for like 4 hours a day during all naps.

This is why I started holding my lo for naps. She would stay asleep in my arms but not her crib. And having her happy the rest of the day and sleeping better at night seemed like a fair trade off.

@daniellemybelle: he just woke up after 30 minutes and I picked him up and he was so tired he fell asleep. Tried to put him down, screaming! He fought so hard he got one hand out of his swaddle and seemed happier and took his paci but now he can't fall asleep. Maddening!!!!

@yellowbird: My LO was the exact same way :( Honestly, I don't have a ton of advice. She was not a great napper. I was kind of smug early on when she would sleep for 2 hours at a time during the day but then she started catnapping and it was really tough. I would often rock her back to sleep when she would wake up from a nap after 30-40 minutes, which was time consuming but made for a happier baby.

He's also waking up after about 30 minutes and used to take longer naps...

@daniellemybelle: man! I thought I was already doing this! I start getting him ready at 55 minutes of being awake. He used to go right to sleep, but now he won't and it's taking me to like 1.5 hours of awake time to get him down. I have to bounce him until he is completely out now.

At that age my LO was the same way - by the time she showed sleepy cues she was overtired and it was a battle. We had to get on a schedule and start getting her ready for a nap when she wasn't acting tired yet.

Is there something I'm missing here? For the last 8 weeks C has been a very agreeable sleeper both day and night going down relatively easily.

For the past week I take him up for naps when he is showing his sleepy cues and he just fights and fights. I mean physically violently squirming in my arms and yelling so I lay him down and he screams, he won't take his pacifier at nap time anymore. He's screaming and going in and out of sleep while contorting his body in my arms. He's obviously tired but can't relax!! What is happening!?
