@Amelieisme: yep, the transition was great! Once she was out of her newborn stage, she was okay with sleeping alone.

Now, at 3 months, she doesn't even sleep in my arms anymore. they change so fast!

Thanks for the advice! I decided that falling asleep nursing him and waking to find home dangling half off my lap was probably more dangerous than cosleeping so I gave in! I brought him into bed with us for the last two nights and things have been much better. I pushed our bed flush against the wall and actually brought the changing pad from our changing table into our bed because it is pretty firm and cradles him in place. We have a pillow top mattress so I didn't want him sleeping directly on that. Inputnhim between me and the wall. This is hopefully temporary as I ordered the Arms Reach cosleeper and I'm hoping he will be willing to sleep in that once it arrives.

.@Mrsdaredevil: Good to hear your baby transitioned out of your bed fairly easily because this was another of my concerns!

I'll keep you all posted!

We went through the exact same thing. DH and I would take turns holding her on the couch. After a couple weeks of this, we just ended up bringing her into bed with us and co slept for about a month. Once she got a bit older, she was okay with being put in her bed alone and transitioned into her crib fine.

Co sleeping can actually be quite healthy for mom and baby, especially if you're breastfeeding. If you do it safely/correctly, you have nothing to be afraid of! Dr. Sears has lots of great information about it on his website.

I went through something very similar, infact during the first week there were many nights where I had to hold her all night long... we did everything that people suggested to get the baby to understand the difference between night and day but it does take time, and isnt and overnight thing. Hang in there, because its tough but it will get better.

i bet he has that thing (i forget what you call it) where he mixes up day and night. our kids didn't really have that problem so i have no tips, but i think mrs. bee has it under guides - sleep guides. you can make the room dark at night, light during the day, etc.

My baby is 6 days old. During the day, he is a gem. We had our newborn photos today and he did not make a peep during the 4 hour session. Nighttime is a different story entirely! At about 10 pm he seems to wake up. I BF him and he falls asleep but as soon as I try to put him down anywhere, he pitches a fit within 10 minutes and wants to BF again. My breasts are ripped to shreds and I'm exhausted. I am seeing a lactation consultant tomorrow to work on his latch and make sure he is getting enough breast milk with feedings..I'm not convinced that is it though because he is not like this during the day. I have tried putting him in different safe spots to sleep, tried swaddled and not but nothing seems to work! The only way he seems to be willing to sleep at night is if i am holding him or he is in bed with me, but i am terrifed of SIDS so i really want to avoid this. It makes no sense because i really dont hold him much during the day and he will sleep without issues. Any suggestions to try to switch his schedule? I'm not expecting miracles here, but a few 2 hour stretches of sleep a night would be great! Right now, I get none!
